STRAIGHT WHITE MEN Shakes Things Up At FST

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) proudly presents Straight White Men by Young Jean Lee, the second production of its 45th Winter Mainstage Season. A regional premiere, Straight White Men is a comedic, yet ruthless, look at the classic father-son drama. Included in Christopher Isherwood's coverage of the "Best Theater of 2014" for The New York Times, Young Jean Lee's latest work pairs questions about identity, privilege, and gender with humor.

BWW Review: CABARET Dazzles at Texas State

CABARET is a 1966 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff, based on John Van Druten's 1951 play I Am a Camera, which was adapted from the short novel Goodbye to Berlin (1939) by Christopher Isherwood. Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, it focuses on the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, and revolves around young American writer Cliff Bradshaw (John Fredrickson) and his relationship with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles (Logan-Rae). The musical was also made into a 1972 film.

But as life in pre-WWII Germany grows more and more uncertain, will the decadent allure of Berlin nightlife be enough to get them through their dangerous times?

BWW Review: CABARET at Tipi am Kanzleramt - It's all about location, location, location!

Watching CABARET in Berlin, near the original locations of Christopher Isherwood's Book 'I Am A Camera,' gives this Kander and Ebb classic even more dramatic weight than it could possibly have in a New York or London production.  At last night's Premiere of the revival of Director/Choreographer Vincent Paterson's production showed why Mr. Paterson has been called 'The Man Behind the Throne.'  Widely imitated, but never equaled, his work in Berlin is the best reason to watch this production.
