 The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2015-2016 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, September 12, to patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party was generously hosted by the Alliance Theatre, at 6:30pm in The Circle Room, on the third floor, 1280 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia, 30309. 

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), North Fulton's only professional theatre company, opens its 24th Season with the Southeastern premiere of Ghost The Musical at the Theatre's home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Performances have limited run dates for three weeks only from September 15th through October 2nd, 2016, Wednesdays through Sundays. Serenbe Playhouse, recipient of the prestigious American Theatre Wing grant (2015), presents the fourth show in its 2016 season, Miss Saigon, with music by Claude- Michel Schonberg; lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr., and Alain Boublil; adapted from the original French lyrics by Alain Boublil. The show is directed by Brian Clowdus, music direction is by Chris Brent Davis, and choreography is by Bubba Carr. The show opened on July 21 and has already been extended to August 14. For the first time ever presented by a professional Atlanta theatre company, Serenbe Playhouse and its design team have recreated the lush wilderness of Vietnam, complete with an actual Vietnam-flown Huey helicopter landing nightly in the Wildflower Meadow at Serenbe.

The Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival is thrilled to announce the selections for the inaugural Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival (AMTF), which will be held August 1 and 2, 2016, at Actor's Express and Synchronicity Theatre. The AMTF will be two days and nights of original musical theatre performances by local artists, as well as showcase performances of professional productions and educational groups. Performances will be open to the artistic community, the public, and the press. More than twenty submissions were accepted and four shows have been selected for the inaugural event.  Lake Forest Theatre presents its inaugural season opener, THE SECRET GARDEN, opening June 10 and running through July 2, with the press opening on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Managing Artistic Director Steve Malone will direct the season opener at the newly renovated John & Nancy Hughes Theatre, 400 East Illinois Rd. in downtown Lake Forest. The production will be accompanied by a 15-piece live orchestra.

Atlanta Lyric Theatre explores that question with one of the most powerful and tragic love stories in American theatre, West Side Story. The show is filled with electrifying dance numbers based on Jerome Robbins' original ground-breaking choreography. Actor's Express announces its 29th Season including two Tony Award winners and three Atlanta premieres. The season opens July 30 with a modern take on Stephen Sondheim's game-changing musical Company directed by Actor's Express Artistic Director Freddie Ashley (Sweeney Todd, Rent). In the fall, Actor's Express will produce the Atlanta premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' raucous dark comedy Appropriate, a standout at the 2013 Humana Festival of New American Plays. A visceral new production of Arthur Miller's classic American drama The Crucible kicks off 2017 followed by the Atlanta premiere of The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, a music-filled comedy about an Elvis impersonator turned drag queen. The season will close with the Pulitzer Prize finalist Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3), Suzan-Lori Parks' epic trilogy about a slave's journey to freedom during the Civil War.

Quest Theatre Ensemble will bring its visual artistry and immersive theatricality to the Alan Menken-Lynn Ahrens musical version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. This version with music by Menken, the multiple Oscar winning composer of Disney musicals Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Newsies; and lyrics by the Tony award-winning lyricist of Ragtime, Seussical and Once on this Island, was a hit for ten consecutive seasons at New York's Madison Square Garden and was later filmed by television in a production starring Kelsey Grammer as Scrooge. Quest's production will be directed by Quest Ensemble Director Andrew Park. A Christmas Carol will run from November 20 - December 20, 2015.

BroadwayWorld brings you a first look at highlights of a new reimaged EVITA at Serenbe Playhouse. The Playhouse will make the leap from the brutal, humid streets of New Orleans to the lush and rebellious countryside of Argentina with their audacious retelling of the country of Argentina's most infamous political figure. Since the bulk of the play is set in the rural countryside of Argentina, the play will be brought to life in the fresh rolling hills of Serenbe. There, Serenbe Playhouse's beloved Randi Garza will make the famed ascent of Eva. Eventually, at her side in her famed balcony will be world-renowned Argentinian tango and opera singer Cesar Restrepo as Juan Peron.
