The Legacy Theatre Opens Its 13th Season With DADDY LONG LEGS

The touching new Musical Daddy Long Legs is making it's Georgia premiere at the Legacy Theatre! This beautiful Off-Broadway hit opens September 7th and runs through September 30th.

Winner of a 2016 Drama Desk award, Daddy Long Legs is a critically-acclaimed musical with beloved productions across the globe including New York, Canada, London and Tokyo. Daddy Long Legs features music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated composer/lyricist, Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre), and Tony-winning librettist/director, John Caird (LES MISERABLES). Based on the 1912 novel of the same name by Jean Webster, the musical tells the story of orphan Jerusha Abbott and her mysterious benefactor who agrees to send her to college, who she dubs "Daddy Long Legs". Under the conditions of her benefactor, Jerusha sends him a letter once a month, describing her new-found experiences with life outside the orphanage.

Daddy Long Legs is a beloved story in the spirit of Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters and "Downton Abbey." Set in turn-of-the-century New England, this charming rags to riches tale is filled with beautiful new music and delightful characters. The story was also adapted into a 1955 film starring Fred Astaire and is now making it's Georgia premiere at Legacy Theatre.

The production will be directed by Sara Morgan and Mark Smith. "I am very excited to among the first theatres to produce this special show," says Smith. "Our audiences loved when we produced Jane Eyre several years ago, and I know they will love this musical too. It's a very similar style to Jane Eyre, and Paul Gordon actually wrote the music for both of these shows."

"We are literally bringing Broadway to South Atlanta," says Executive Producer Bethany Smith. "Actor Chase Peacock got his professional start at Legacy before starring in American Idiot on Broadway. Now we are so excited to bring him back for Daddy Long Legs! We've also got the original costumes and set pieces from New York for this production. It's truly beautiful and we can't wait to share this special show with our audiences." In addition to Chase Peacock, starring as Jerusha Abbott, is Oregon native Kaitlyn Sage. Sage was recently seen as Amber VonTussle in Legacy's Hairspray as well as A Taffeta Christmas last season. Daddy Long Legs is music directed by Jodi Cotton and features a scenic design by Phil Male, lighting design by D. Conner McVey, Sound Design by Jason Polhemus and projection design by Bradley Bergeron.

The Legacy's thirteenth season continues with Away in the Basement (the sequel to Church Basement Ladies), Always Patsy Cline, The Bridges of Madison County, and Disney's Newsies. Season subscriptions and individual tickets are on sale now.

Daddy Long Legs runs September 7th through 30th with performances Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm and Saturdays & Sundays at 3pm. Adult tickets are $30-$35, Senior & Student discounts are available as well as discounts for groups of 20 or more.
