The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) continues their 2022 season with two engaging one-act plays, 'Florence & Mojo' on their Main Stage written by the renowned African American playwright, Alice Childress.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) is excited to bring two very different but superb one-act plays, Florence and Mojo, by Alice Childress to its Main Stage. Alice Childress, often acknowledged as the only 20th-century African-American woman to have written, produced, and published plays for four decades, was at the height of her powers in the 1950s and 60s.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) has launched their 60th Anniversary Season with a theatrical gem, Matthew Barber's 'Enchanted April.'

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's 60th season will begin on June 8th with Matthew Barber's Enchanted April, a 2003 Tony Award nominee for Best Play. Based on Elizabeth Von Arnim's novel of the same name, it is the perfect show to launch STNJ's re-opening as the company emerges from the pandemic shutdown.

Six mainstage productions, several of which explore positive and dramatic social change on the Island of Ireland in the past decade, will be part of the 2020 Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival, running in venues across the city from January 7 to February 3. New York's all-Irish theatre festival and the world's only festival devoted exclusively to producing the plays of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, presents productions from Belfast, Dublin, Wexford, Manhattan and Queens. Three are American premieres; two are world premieres. The American premiere of Eva O'Connor's 'Maz and Bricks' and the world premiere of Sean Sugrie's 'The 8th' open the Festival on January 7.

Vilna, a new play by Ira Fuchs directed by Joseph Discher, will open its limited Off-Broadway World Premiere engagement at the Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46th Street, between Ninth & Tenth Avenues) tonight Wednesday March 20th.  This limited Off-Broadway engagement will continue through Sunday April 14th only.

Tomorrow night at Cumberland County Playhouse, the company, cast and crew unveil the 2017 model of Smoke on the Mountain, which marks the 24th year of the musical playing in Crossville. Weslie Webster directs and her cast includes Daniel W. Black and Lauren Marshall as Sanders family father and mother Burl and Vera.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) welcomes the holiday season with a true theatrical gem, A Child's Christmas in Wales now through January 1st.The show features outstanding direction by Joseph Discher, musical direction by Robert Long and a stellar cast.

Last presented here 13 years ago, many patrons have asked us to bring this musical celebration of the season back to our stage. Based on Thomas' classic story about his childhood holidays in Wales in the early 1900's, this beautiful piece about a time gone by rejoices in the simple joys of childhood, the spirit of goodness, the comfort of family, and the magic that music and the imagination bring to us all.

The festive show is being revived for the first time since it last appeared on the STNJ stage in 2003, featuring Greg Jackson in the role of Dylan Thomas. Performances begin November 30 and run through January 1 at the F.M. Johnny Mercer (1909-1976) wrote the lyrics to more than 1500 songs, including dozens upon dozens for movies and Broadway shows. He received 19 Academy Award nominations, and won four Best Original Song Oscars. Mercer was also a composer, a vocalist and the foresighted founder of Capitol Records. To appreciate The American Songbook, one must be familiar with this multifaceted artist. In a revue presented last Thursday to Sunday at the Studio Theater on West 42nd Street, Accentuate The Positive staged its title song as an evangelical meeting. You've got to ac-cen-tu-ate the positive/E-li-mi-nate the negative/Latch on to the affirmative/Don't mess with Mister In-Between…(Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer) Stephen Belida played a preacher while around him Lynne Halliday, Tom Hafner, Madison Stratton, Lou Steele, and Carey Van Driest chanted, sung, snapped, clapped, circled, and raised their arms in Hallelujah fashion. An auspicious beginning.
