In anticipation of the BAM Karen-the organization's new venue within 300 Ashland Place-BAM will redefine and elevate programming roles to reflect a broader vision for the organization. BAM Karen will include three new cinemas, a permanent home for the BAM Hamm Archives-including the Shelby White & Leon Levy Reading Room-and the Samuel H. Scripps Education Center. The new spaces are named in honor of longtime BAM president, Karen Brooks Hopkins, and are slated to open in 2021.
Later today, Broadway welcomes a brand new musical, JAGGED LITTLE PILL- an exhilarating new musical inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette's seminal album of the same name. The show marks the return of Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus, who brings it straight from its record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at American Repertory Theater last summer, where she has served as Artistic Director since 2008. Since then, five of Paulus' show have transferred to Broadway. Today, we're looking back at the other four!
Danielle Brooks and John Keating have been selected to receive the 2019 Joe A. Callaway Award presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation. The award, honoring the best performance in a professional production of a classic play (one written prior to World War ll) in the New York metropolitan area, will be presented at Actors' Equity Association's Eastern Regional Membership Meeting at 2 pm on Monday January 13, 2020 at the Equity offices, 165 West 46th Street in New York. The announcement was made by Judy Rice, President of the Foundation, and Joan Glazer, Managing Director.

The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) and NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today celebrated the start of construction on a new cultural center at the 32-story mixed-use tower, located at 300 Ashland Place in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The L10 Arts and Cultural Center will be home to several noteworthy cultural institutions including the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Brooklyn Public Library, the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and 651 ARTS.
The Yiddishkayt Initiative (YI) (Avi Hoffman, Producing Artistic Director) and Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Artistic Director) have announced the full lineup of events for the inaugural YI Love New York YiddishFest. This selection of performances, screenings, and discussions centered around Jewish culture and Yiddish entertainment will play several New York City venues from December 21-29. SiriusXM host Julie James will moderate the conversation with Katharine McPhee, currently starring as Jenna, and original Broadway cast members Drew Gehling, Christopher Fitzgerald, Molly Hager and Stephanie Torns. Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions of the cast.
The composer and lyricist of Waitress, the multi-platinum-selling Grammy and twice Tony-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, will return to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre to host the final edition of the show's hugely popular a?oeCast Album Karaokea?? program following the 7 PM performance on Tuesday, December 17th. Interested audience members will be able to sign up before the performance for the chance to sing one minute of any song in the show accompanied by the onstage band led by musical director Nadia DiGiallonardo. 10 Hairy Legs, the male repertory dance company, continues its aggressive commitment to the commissioning of new works and gains first-time rights to perform Brian Brooks' solo I'm Going to Explode, now totaling 14 World Premiere Commissioned Works since our founding in 2012. Three of the four works will debut at the company's New York Season June 27-29 at New York Live Arts; the fourth dèbuting in New York following its World Premiere at Ocean County College's Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts on April 18, 2020. OCC Commissioned the work with support from the Louis Prima Foundation.

The premiere of A&E Network's 'Biography - Garth Brooks: The Road I'm On (Part 1)' hit a high note on Monday night, delivering 1.2 million Total Viewers according to Nielsen Media Research, the largest audience for a 'Biography' installment in 15 years (since 'Biography: Jeopardy!' in December 2004). Additionally, it outperformed all of A&E's 'Biography' specials from this year in the key Adult 25-54 demo (434,000) and was the most-watched A&E special in 18 months. Called a?oefascinating, lighthearted and spicya?? by The New York Times, MY LIFE ON A DIET, an autobiographical comedy written by Ms. Taylor and her late husband Joseph Bologna, had an enormously successful run last season Off-Broadway under the direction of Mr. Bologna.
