The 20th Annual Watermill Center Summer Benefit took place on July 27, 2013 at the The Watermill Center in Water Mill, NY. Beginning at 6pm, the evening included cocktails provided by Bacardi USA, a silent auction, performances, art installations, dinner, dancing, and a live auction hosted by auctioneer Simon de Pury. Five Towns College is honoring entertainment luminaries for their Contributions to the World of Entertainment by naming four schools, three centers, a theater and a new graduate library after them. The naming dedications are: John Lennon Music & Technology Center, Charles Strouse School of Music, Jule Styne School of Theatre, Maury Yeston School of Education, Stewart F. Lane School of Business, Frank Loesser College Theater, Ervin Drake Popular Music Center, Stanley Cohen College Library, Barbara Siman Dance Center, Richard Hayman Graduate Library and the Nederlander Worldwide Production Center. TOP HAT Headed to Broadway with a Little Help from Tommy Tune?

The show has been said to be aimed towards Broadway since it first opened, with American producers on board from day one. Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that 'Tune, now 74, is getting back in the game. At the behest of his good friend Jimmy Nederlander, a theater legend in his own right, Tune's in London inspecting a new show called 'Top Hat.'

TOP HAT to Close at Aldwych Theatre on October 26

TOP HAT is currently playing at the Aldwych Theatre, and will close on October 26 to make room for Andrew Lloyd Webber's new STEPHEN WARD Musical, which is set to open in November 2013. Thare are plans for a UK tour in 2014-15.

Elie Hirschfeld, and his wife Sarah Schlesinger Hirschfeld, are two of the founding donors for the new Drama League Theater Center, a new, state-of-the-art facility that will bring world-class theater artists, emerging talents, and New York theatergoers together under one roof. The Center is located on the lobby level of the historic former AT&T Building at 32 Avenue of the Americas, in the heart of TriBeCa's arts district.

The 2013 Theatre Museum Awards for Excellence were held Monday night, June 3rd, at The Players Club. Honorees at the evening's ceremony included the Distinguished Service to the Theatre Award given, posthumously, to Helen Guditis and The Theatre Arts Education Award presented to Emerson College. The evening also included a special tribute to the Palace Theater in honor of its 100th anniversary. The Palace Tribute was a trip back in time to the vaudeville era. The Drama League opened it doors at their new space on May 23rd with a ribbon cutting hosted by Judith Light. The focal point of The DramaLeague Theater Center is the Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Studio Lab, a brand-new laboratory/development space for theater artists to create and hone work for future productions. It will also act as a flexible multi-purpose space for a variety of programming including educational opportunities, audience-focused series and special events. This will allow the Drama League to better serve the entire New York theater community - directors, audience, playwrights and actors. The Drama League Theater Center will offer artist residencies, play readings, open rehearsals, developmental workshops, lectures, classes, seminars, discussions, conferences, theatre-focused social gatherings and more.

The Theatre Museum has announced the honorees for the 2013 Theatre Museum Awards for Excellence. The mission of TheTheatre Museum is to preserve, protect, and perpetuate the legacy of the theatre,it is the first and only chartered non profit museum dedicated to the historyof Theatre. Since 1995 The Awards for Excellence have recognized individualsand organizations for their contribution to theater arts, education, theaterhistory and preservation. It was announced today that the new Broadway production of JEKYLL & HYDE -starring Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox - will play the final performance of its limited Broadway engagement on Sunday, May 12, 2013, after 15 previews and 30 regular performances at the Marquis Theatre.Direct from a 25-week national tour which launched in October 2012, JEKYLL & HYDE began previews on Broadway Friday, April 5, 2013 and opened on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
