Review: THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARTURO UI, starring Mark Gatiss

A corrupt lot steeped in scandal puppeteers the economy. Unreasonable taxes are plaguing the people. Violence is rampant. All the while, a megalomaniac is gaining more traction by the day. Did we turn on the news, or are we watching Bertolt Brecht’s merciless satire? Seán Linnen transforms the allegorical German classic into a riotous, electric, exciting romp with music by Placebo. Translated by Stephen Sharkey, it follows a fictional mobster who, appealing to the masses, reaches enormous power in 1930s Chicago. Brecht wrote the play as a response to Hitler’s ascent to dictatorship, specifically including direct references and relevant information about the timeline. Now more than ever, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is both a parable and a warning.

Student Blog: A Monday in My Life at Fordham University

A couple of years ago, when I was initially deciding which school to attend, I heavily considered what a day in the life of the students at that school would look like. At Fordham, with two campuses, as a Rose Hill student pursuing a theatre minor, my day-to-day looks different than most, so I thought I would detail a Monday in my life to hopefully give people a better understanding of life at Fordham!

Jiashan He: How a Dancer-Turned-Marketer Shapes Communication and Community in the Arts

New York’s arts and culture scene spans world-class museums, landmark performance venues, and experimental art spaces woven into the city’s daily life. It includes longstanding institutions such as the American Museum of Natural History, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and The Juilliard School, alongside newer icons like the High Line. Within this vibrant ecosystem, much of the work that shapes culture happens offstage. “Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it,” wrote Bertolt Brecht. And if art shapes the world, then those who steward it behind the scenes shape the conditions in which that transformation becomes possible.

MINHA ESTRELA DALVA Premieres in São Paulo, Blending Memory and Music in Tribute to a Brazilian Icon

Minha Estrela Dalva is not a conventional biography, but an imagined encounter between artist and muse. Onstage, Renato Borghi steps into the dressing room of legendary singer Dalva de Oliveira to fulfill a lifelong dream: inviting the “Queen of Radio” to perform the songs of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill. Blending memory and fantasy, the production—directed by Elias Andreato and Elcio Nogueira Seixas—brings together past and present in a poetic theatrical dialogue. Soraya Ravenle portrays Dalva at once as myth and woman, while Ivan Vellame embodies key figures from her personal life. With evocative music, movement, and striking visuals, the show reveals both the icon and the human story behind one of Brazil’s greatest voices.

Interview: Susan Priver and Ron Bottitta of THE LOVER

Veteran director Jack Heller returns to the Odyssey Theatre to helm a visiting production of Sex, Lies and Harold Pinter, an evening of two rarely staged Pinter one-acts—both darkly comic, both unmistakably unsettling. Opening night is set for March 20, with performances continuing through April 26.
