MOTHER COURAGE Trailer Released Ahead of Shakespeare's Globe Summer 2026 Season
Michelle Terry leads Anna Jordan's modern reimagining of Brecht's classic, set in a resource-driven war on the Globe stage.
Shakespeare's Globe has released a feature trailer for MOTHER COURAGE, offering audiences their first extended look at the production ahead of its run at The Globe Theatre in London. The clip frames the world of the play through a stark, resource-driven conflict in which two armies — the Purple and the Blue — wage perpetual war not over nations but over territory, food, fuel, and survival.
The production draws on Bertolt Brecht's protest classic, here given a blazing new translation by playwright Anna Jordan that sharpens the text's political edges for a contemporary audience. Michelle Terry leads the ensemble in the title role, a performance that has already drawn widespread critical attention. BroadwayWorld's own review of the production weighed in on how Jordan's heightened approach sits within the Globe's iconic open-air space. The production incorporates original live music and a large ensemble cast, with the world of the play organized around a dystopian geography called "The Grid."
MOTHER COURAGE plays The Globe Theatre through 27 June 2026, with the run having opened in May as part of Shakespeare's Globe's Summer 2026 Season. The production has earned five-star notices from Theatre Weekly and four-star responses from both The Telegraph and WhatsOnStage.
Terry's performance has generated considerable conversation beyond the critical response — she made headlines earlier this month after addressing an audience member who was texting during a performance, a moment that underscored the intensity and intimacy the production demands from its house.
