Juilliard has announced the launch of Juilliard LIVE, a new streaming initiative offering performances from across its three divisions—music, dance, and drama—online to a global audience.

Austin Playhouse has announced a virtual production of Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles adapted by Producing Artistic Director Lara Toner Haddock as part of the 2020-2021 Ghostlight Season. Running May 21 – June 5, 2021, tickets go on sale March 19.

Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater are pleased to present the schedule for the month of February! At Birdland Jazz Club, catch the iconic Lionel Hampton Big Band Featuring Jason Marsalis, current GRAMMY nominee Catherine Russell, the Birdland debut of AGUAS Trio with Omar Sosa, Yilian Cañizares and Gustavo Ovalles, and iconic vocalist Jane Monheit. Internationally recognized trumpeter Rachel Therrien, the Seth Weaver Big Band, and The Voice contestant Melinda Rose Rodriguez will also be performing upstairs. 

Outside in Music will present A Very ChimyTina Christmas featuring viral jazz sensations Martina DaSilva and Dan 'Chimy' Chmielinski. On their debut album, innovative vocalist Martina and dynamic bassist Chmielinski offer a fresh take on nine classic Christmas tunes and one joyous original composition.

On Monday, August 19th Ashley Kate Adams (La Cage Aux Folles) of AKA Studio Productions will present a reading of FRANKIE! The Musical with Book, Music & Lyrics by teen prodigy Elise Marra and directed by Joe Barros (NY Theatre Barn). 

From Duke Ellington's rocking rhythms, Thelonious Monk's melodious thunks to Mary Lou Williams' spiritual swing and Michel Camilo's island improvisations, the Newport Jazz Festival has been the premier showcase for pianists for decades. This year's edition features a wide variety of keyboardists, shaping the state of jazz to come.

It could be Grover's Corner, New Hampshire, or it could be Westport, Connecticut. Whether you've never seen Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic or you've seen it many times, Staples Players will take you on a new stroll through Any Town, USA, and right into the heart of what it means to be human. David Roth (SHS '84) and Kerry Long (SHS '97) co-direct Our Town, which will run in the Black Box Theatre at Staples High School from May 23 to May 26.

The Penfold Theatre Company's production of CRIME AND PUNISHEMENT -- adapted by Marilyn Campbell and Curt Columbus from the novel of the same name by Dostoevsky -- was a tense night at the theatre that was unlike anything I have ever experienced.

The weather and season are perfect for an evening or afternoon cooped up with a bunch of murder suspects in an English manor.  You won't be disappointed in THE UNEXPECTED GUEST.

MIDDLETOWN is an essentially plotless play by Will Eno, which was the winner of the 2010 Horton Foote Award for Most Promising New Play. Like Thornton Wilder's Our Town before it, MIDDLETOWN looks at our existence between life and death, or, the middle. What MIDDLETOWN achieves that Our Town doesn't, at least for me, is that it succeeds through a crackling wit and the usual Eno word play to remind us that it is the every day minutiae that make us all human. It also is a refreshing reminder that we all need to stop and take the time to appreciate just how achingly painful yet weird and wonderful life here as a human truly is.
