BWW Review: A Marvelous Oropesa is Definitely Not 'Lost' in Met's TRAVIATA

When I recently interviewed Lisette Ororpesa, just before her first Violetta at the Met, she told me that people are always asking her “Isn't TRAVIATA an opera for three different sopranos? One soprano per act?” and her answer is: “Yeah, if you want to look at it that way...' She proved that she didn't need any help from a doppelganger in pulling off all the varied aspects of Verdi's courtesan, with a stellar performance.

Tom Gold Dance Concludes 2019 Spring Season

Tom Gold Dance, the classical dance company founded and led by former New York City Ballet soloist Tom Gold, concluded its annual spring season with the second of two performances of Gold's Significant Strangers (World Premiere), Blind Revelry (New York City Premiere, 2018), and Counterpoint (revival, 2017), Thursday, April 4 at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College.

Next up at New York City Center is I Married an Angel, the second Encores! production of the City Center 75th Anniversary Season. In addition to Sara Mearns as the Angel of the title, the production will feature Phillip Attmore (Peter Mueller), Max Baker (General Lucash), Mark Evans (Count Willy Palaffi), Ann Harada (Duchess of Holstein-Kuloff), Nikki M. James (Countess Peggy Palaffi), Hayley Podschun (Anna Murphy), and Tom Robbins (Harry Mischka Szigetti).

Tom Gold Dance Announces A Program And Artist Update For 2019 Spring Season

Tom Gold Dance will present the World Premiere of Tom Gold Dance Founder and Director Tom Gold's Significant Strangers to selections from Bernstein's Anniversaries for solo piano during its annual spring season, Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4, 2019 at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. Also on the program are the New York City Premiere of Gold's Blind Revelry to Stephen Sondheim's rarely heard Concertino for two pianos, and a revival of Gold's Counterpoint.

Lar Lubovitch Dance Company Announces 50th Anniversary Season At The Joyce Theater

The internationally renowned Lar Lubovitch Dance Company celebrates its 50th anniversary this spring with two programs at The Joyce Theater featuring the world premiere of Lar Lubovitch's Something About Night as well as signature works from the Company's vast repertory. The Company will be joined by the Martha Graham Dance Company and principals from The Joffrey Ballet, each performing seminal Lubovitch dances in honor of this milestone year. Performances are at The Joyce Theater April 17–22, 2018 (Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm, Thursday and Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm).
