Review: ABCD at Barrington Stage Company

At two very different public schools in the same city — an underserved school on the verge of shutdown, and an elite magnet program nearby — pressure to perform well on standardized tests drives students and teachers to compromise their integrity. Kudos to Artistic Director, Julie Ann Boyd and the team at Barrington Stage Company for giving yet another new promising playwright and their highly relevant work life.

Review: B.R.O.K.E.N CODE B.I.R.D SWITCHING at Berkshire Theatre Group

The season opener of Berkshire Theatre Group’s 2022 season B.R.O.K.E.N CODE B.I.R.D SWITCHING is not, as the title might suggest to some, about Native American Communication Specialists during WWII. It is one of those relatively infrequent theatrical experiences in which each of the many individuals involved in the production, and their skillful execution of their relative elements supports one another so particularly well, that that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts it’s made of. A powerful piece of theatre in which art imitates life extremely well. An experience that leaves the viewer mouth agape saying WOW and providing an abundance of food for thought.

The Lyric Stage Company of Boston Presents THE LIGHT

The Light by Loy A. Webb takes the audience inside a relationship as a newly engaged couple navigates the revelation of long-kept secrets while the power of love is tested. This enthralling, surprising, and thought provoking play will have audiences talking long after they have left the theater and closes the 2021/22 Season featuring the Lyric Stage directorial debut of Jacqui Parker, who has been onstage in past shows including Miss Witherspoon, Follies, and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill.

THE ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD DEITY Comes to TheatreSquared

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, a hilarious, incisive satire that takes on the world of professional wrestling—while, in the process,  powerbombing racism, xenophobia, and the American appetite for spectacle—opens at TheatreSquared on April 13 and will run through May 8.

BWW Review: PASS OVER: Poetic, Profane, and Powerful Drama of Search for a Promised Land

SpeakEasy Stage Company presents the New England premiere of Antoinette Nwandu's PASS OVER, in a co-production with The Front Porch Arts Collective. In this intense drama performed without intermission, two young Black men represent the lives of countless others like them who have dreams of reaching a promised land that is too often unattainable in these United States. With influences from WAITING FOR GODOT and the Old Testament saga of Exodus, and inspired partly by the killing of Trayvon Martin, PASS OVER is a haunting treatment of the present day state of affairs that proves discomfiting and cathartic on many levels. Directed by Monica White Ndounou and marked by a trio of vivid performances by Kadahj Bennett, Hubens a?oeBobbya?? Cius, and Lewis D. Wheeler.

BWW Review: Riveting and Hilarious HAND TO GOD is a Must-See at Burbage Theatre Co

a?oeThe devil made me do it isa?? is often said when one is caught doing something they shouldn't have. You won't need to say that about going to see Burbage Theatre Company's current production of Hand to God, because you absolutely should go and see it and you should not wait for the devil or anyone else to make you do it.
