The Obie-Award winning The Fire This Time Festival has announced the four playwrights – Kendra Augustin, Kim Brockington, Jahquale Mazyck and James Anthony Tyler –  who will be developing work in the 5th cycle of its New Works Lab program.

Robin Gerber’s play The Shot, directed by Michelle Joyner, has proven to be the hot ticket as part of the 2022 United Solo Festival; it will add a performance on will Tuesday, November 1 at 8 PM (after adding two shows previously).

Madeleine L’Engle’s Newbery Medal-winning classic novel, A Wrinkle in Time, will be adapted for the musical stage for the first time ever – in a production by an award-winning creative team.

They will join the women previously announced to receive Crystal Awards—”Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson, “The Woman King” director Gina Prince-Bythewood, and “Don’t Worry Darling” writer and director Katie Silberman and Olivia Wilde—as well as Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award recipient Michaela Coel.

The romantic anthology drama “Cherish the Day,” starring Joy Bryant and Henry Simmons, will air following “Queen Sugar,” now in its final season, making for a Tuesday night of two great television dramas. The first season of “Cherish the Day” ranked #1 in its time period across all of cable with Black women, households, and total viewers.

The Emelin Theatre kicks off its eminent FILM CLUB series beginning September 28 with a slate of five critically acclaimed, pre-release independent films – and a sixth “bonus film.”

For seven seasons and 88 episodes, the contemporary drama has been directed by women filmmakers, an initiative set forth by DuVernay at the outset of production in 2016. With nearly three dozen filmmakers making their directorial debut on “Queen Sugar,” the series marks a shift in industry hiring standards for women and people of color.

Additional casting has been announced for the upcoming Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. Opening night is set for Sunday, October 9 at the Hudson Theatre, and the show will run for a strictly limited 17-week engagement starting Monday, September 19.

'Queen Sugar” will return to OWN this fall for its seventh and final season boasting a directorial line-up of returning all-star directors, including creator and executive producer Ava DuVernay. From ARRAY Filmworks and Warner Bros. Television, the series has started production on the final episode in and around New Orleans.
