Seattle Public Stages First Reading of Emerald Prize Winner BLUE BOY

Seattle Public Theater will present a staged reading of Aurin Squire's Blue Boy on August 13, 2017, at 4:00pm. Squire is the first recipient of Seattle Public Theater's Emerald Prize: a biennial $10,000 award created to amplify the Pacific Northwest's voice in national conversations and concerns.

The Playwrights Realm has announced its 2017-18 season productions: the world premieres of Michael Yates Crowley's The Rape of the Sabine Women, By Grace B. Matthias, directed by Tyne Rafaeli (August - September 2017), and Don Nguyen's Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth, directed by Jade King Carroll (February - March 2018).Both will be presented at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street project.

Acquisto and Sammy Buck for a book & CD signing celebrating Shakespeare's birthday. Friday, April 21st, 5:00pm event is free to the public. Copies of the script, published by Playscripts, Inc., and the CD, from Broadway Records, will be available for purchase.

In addition to planning an Off-Broadway series at the Horton Grand Theatre, SDMT is cultivating two, site-specific works; LAST NIGHT IN TOWN - a new musical based on the discography of Ben Folds, and HALL PASS - an immersive musical set and performed in a high school. Both musicals were featured in New York University's Forum on Site-Specific Performance in 2015. LAST NIGHT IN TOWN has another San Diego connection: one of the show's creators, Amy Cordileone, grew up in San Diego and worked locally for many years before moving to New York City.

As part of the kick-off event for the 2016 Kennedy Center (KC) American College Theater Festival, a special preview of the EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS will be performed and livestreamed as part of KC's Millennium Stage Series. The preview consists of an excerpt of the collection with more than 30 one-minute plays inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, with participation by theater makers and institutions across the nation and showcases the creative outcome of a community outreach residency in Ferguson and St. Louis County, Missouri in the fall of 2015.

2016 National Festival of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Begins Next Week

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 150 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 48th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 12-16, 2016 in multiple locations throughout the Center. Thousands of student artists from eight regions across the country presented their work at regional festivals from January 5 through February 27, 2016 and more than 150 were selected to travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the national festival.
