Goodman Theatre's commitment to new work and commissioning emerging artists continues as four Chicago-based writers are announced as the 2020/2021 Playwrights Unit.

URSULA VON RYDINGSVARD: INTO HER OWN is an artistic biography of one of the few women in the world working in monumental sculpture.

In solidarity with the people and theater community of Belarus, dozens of theaters worldwide are presenting readings of Andrei Kureichik's sensational new play, Insulted. Belarus(sia). In the United States, Rogue Machine Theatre will present the reading from Los Angeles on Friday, September 18th at 8pm.

The Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra announces a virtual concert to honor Lyric Opera of Chicago's canceled live opening night. Opera Without Words: A Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra (Virtual) Celebration will premiere today, Tuesday, September 15 at 7:00pm CDT via Facebook and YouTube. 

TV's Barry 'Shabaka' Henley ('Bob Hearts Abishola,' 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' 'Better Call Saul') will star in a benefit reading of Robert Galinsky's hit play The Bench: A Homeless Love Story, directed by Drama Desk winner Jay O. Sanders, streaming on Facebook on Saturday, October 10, 10 PM est.

The Herb Alpert Foundation and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) have awarded the 2020 Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (HAAIA) to five exceptional mid-career artists. Now in its 26th year, the annual award provides five unrestricted $75,000 grants to independent artists working in the fields of dance, film/video, music, theatre and visual arts. The recipients will be honored at a virtual ceremony hosted by Herb Alpert, his wife Lani Hall Alpert and the Herb Alpert Foundation on Friday, May 22, 2020.

Burning Coal Theatre Company has announced that it will present The 19th Amendment Project, a collection of short plays written by some of the most accomplished women and/or non-binary playwrights working today. Performance dates are August 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 & 29 at 7:30 pm.

The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to announce Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You., a major solo exhibition devoted to the work of renowned artist Barbara Kruger. On view at the Art Institute of Chicago from November 1, 2020 through February 14, 2021, the exhibition will encompass four decades of the artist's practicea?"the largest and most comprehensive presentation of Kruger's work in twenty years. Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You. is organized with MoMA PS1 and The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Hayward Gallery, London, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
