Theater Breaking Through Barriers today announced their first-ever Virtual Playmakers' Intensive. This unique online workshop will feature the world premiere of seven original works, created by and for TBTB artists and written exclusively to be performed on the Zoom conferencing platform.
The Bridge Initiative: Women+ in Theatre (TBI) offers a virtual series called SAI: Scratching our Artistic Itches. Every Sunday at 1pm, TBI presents a live, one-time-only reading of a unproduced play or a Pulitzer Prize winner. The playwrights are often in attendance and participate in the Q&A that follows. Actors are mostly from the Valley but some live in other parts of the country from Los Angeles to New York. And all participants receive a stipend for their time.

You start talking to that cute girl and she watches from the wings as you take on the (almost) titular role in The Importance of Being Earnest in the theatre department's production. You love the chance to be physically funny as the iconic character. You make her laugh. Flash forward: You and she are both theatre majors and finally calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend. Upon graduating, you land a spot in the acting MFA program at the University of Florida. Things are going pretty well. To top it all off, you get cast in your dream role, Seaweed Stubbs in Hairspray, at Priscilla Beach Theatre. You'll be spending the summer dancing and making people laugh in a charming little barn by the beach in Plymouth. And the best part? Your girlfriend will also be in the cast, playing Lorraine.

United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, is bringing together over 130 shows from all over the world for its tenth anniversary. These shows will offer audiences intimate theatre experiences highlighting the talent, unique perspectives, and storytelling prowess of participating artists. Many promising shows have captured the public's imagination, have sold out their first performances at the Festival, and may now be offered additional performances. With songs, wit, and a powerful message of resilience, Hollander represents something far greater than mere survival when she takes the stage in New Rep's BlackBox Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts.

Two distinctive pieces of theater - a drama about pioneering gay illustrator J.C. Leyendecker, and a musical comedy version of the Greek classic Electra - will be featured in this year's New York New Works Theatre Festival, August 29 through September 14.
