The Obie Award-winning New Ohio Theatre has announced that the 29th annual Ice Factory Festival will be a hybrid model that includes live in-person performances, as well as live-streamed and on-demand.

Boston's Guerilla Opera and the Nichols House Museum co-present I Give You My Home, a world premiere site-specific chamber opera inspired by the life of Rose Standish Nichols, a true-life Women's Peace Party and Suffrage Activist and professional landscape architect. I Give You My Home features music and original libretto by local composer Beth Wiemann and is brought to life by acclaimed theater and film director Cara Consilvio.

The voice and percussion duo, Bahué, presents the first virtual world premiere of the 2022 LATINX COMPOSER MINIATURE CHALLENGE (#LCMC), now available to watch on Instagram, YouTube, and the Bahué website.

Bahué is a voice and percussion duo that advocates for and uplifts Latinx artistry and culture through music. The LATINX COMPOSER MINIATURE CHALLENGE is their inaugural project, where the bicoastal duo challenges composers who identify in any way as Latin-American, Latino/a, Latinx to compose miniature pieces for the duo, vocalist Aliana de la Guardia and percussionist Ariel Campos.

Guerilla Opera has announced the 2022 season of The Guerilla Underground, a virtual speakeasy experience and performance series that explores the “operatic”. 

The cast features Guerilla Opera All-Stars Aliana de la Guardia (soprano and Artistic Director), Brian Church (baritone), and Mike Williams (percussion), in dynamic solo and duo performances. The production and creative team includes Deniz Khateri (Stage Director and librettist for SALT), Nuozhou Wang (Associate Director and Video Effects Designer), Keithlyn Parkmen (Lighting Designer and Associate Producer), Sarah Schneider (Artistic Projects and Production Manager).

Guerilla Opera presents a live production of ELLIS, a world premiere multimedia and immersive opera based on true stories from Ellis Island. ELLIS runs for two performances only on Saturday and Sunday, October 2 & 3, 2021 at 7:00PM in the Old South Meeting House, Boston's National Historic Landmark known for being the spark of the American Revolution.

At the opening of their 15th Anniversary Season, Guerilla Opera will present a live production of ELLIS, a world premiere multimedia and immersive opera, composed and with electronic sound design by Gabriele Vanoni, libretto by Ewa Chrusciel, and with video installation and stage direction by Laine Rettmer.

Guerilla Opera has been selected to participate in the 2021 Live Arts Boston cohort. This award will support 'I Give You My Home: The Rose Standish Nichols Story', a site specific chamber opera inspired by the life of Rose Standish Nichols and in collaboration with the Nichols House Museum in Boston. This world premiere opera paints a portrait of a strong-willed, intelligent, and professional woman and highlights her efforts to affect change through the Women's Peace Movement, Women's Suffrage and in her professional work.

Guerilla Opera’s artistic director, Aliana de la Guardia, hosted a warmly informal Zoom preview of the company’s current work in progress, Island of Hope, Island of Tears (working title) which served effectively as a promotion of a planned in-person workshop as well as an opportunity to engage in dialogue around the opera’s themes.

How do landscape and human kind transform and shape each other, and which came first?... Guerilla Opera gets wild in exploration to find out the answer to the age-old “chicken or the egg” question. The ensemble continues their “Encore Series” in April with the 2014 world premiere production of GALLO, a fable in music in one act.

Guerilla Opera's Board of Directors and Ensemble are pleased to announce Aliana de la Guardia as sole Artistic Director effective February 8, 2021. De la Guardia is a co-founding artist of Guerilla Opera, and served as General Manager since 2007 before being appointed Co-Artistic Director in 2018 with Julia Noulin-Mérat.

Guerilla Opera has been approved for a $10,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support the world premiere of Island of Hope, Island of Tears with music by Boston-based composer Gabriele Vanoni, libretto by Eva Chrusciel and in collaboration with stage director and video artist Laine Rettmer.  

As the world prepares for further quarantining, Guerilla Opera, in anticipation, developed the Guerilla Underground, an on-demand virtual speakeasy where you can explore the ensemble's latest COVID Experiments, short projects that pack a punch with small casts of your favorite Guerillas and that expand the definition of opera in surprising ways!
