Sugar, butter, flour! Sara Bareilles' musical WAITRESS opens at the Saenger Theatre tonight! It's about a young woman named Jenna who works at a bakery and is trying to figure out her life. She's in an abusive marriage, finds out she's pregnant, and it forces her to take a look at what she really wants. With the help of her best friends, an unexpected romance with a doctor, and a pie-baking contest her future starts to look a whole lot brighter.
Broadway In Chicago is thrilled to announce that two young local actresses have been cast to take on the role of 'Lulu' during the Chicago engagement of WAITRESS. The show will make its Chicago debut at Broadway In Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph) for a limited three-week engagement July 3 - 22, 2018.
As she prepares the host the Tony Awards tomorrow evening, Sara Bareilles received a huge surprise from the Broadway and touring casts of Waitress. Broadway cast member Christopher Fitzgerald delivered a care package to Bareilles' dressing room at Radio City, where she unpacked goodies handpicked by the casts. Watch the video below!
'Cast Album Karaoke,'WAITRESS's hugely popular post-show party, will take place following the 7 PM show on Tuesday June 12 with special guest Jason Mraz returning to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47 Street) to co-host along with cast member Tiffany Mann. Jason made his Broadway debut in the show in December.
There comes a moment late in act two of Waitress, the Jessie Nelson-Sara Bareilles musical now onstage at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall, when Desi Oakley - the actress portraying Jenna Hunterson, the show's very pregnant heroine - finds herself bathed in the bright glow of a spotlight and she delivers the show's stirring and emotionally driven climax: a performance of Bareilles' plaintive pop ballad "She Used to Be Mine," arguably the score's best-known and most beloved song.

Windowsill Pies' Lazy Summer Strawberry and Cream Pie has been named the "Official Pie of WAITRESS New Orleans." The recipe will be inserted into all WAITRESS Cookbooks sold at the Saenger Theatre during the New Orleans engagement. Mini versions of the pie are sold at the Whole Foods on Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie.
The producers of Broadway's hit Waitress announced today that Katharine McPhee will take another shift at the pie diner when she extends her engagement, returning to the show from July 5 - August 19. She made her Broadway debut in the show on April 10; her current engagement ends on June 17.

The musical adaptation of Adrienne Shelly's screenplay WAITRESS made history on Broadway when it came in with the first all-female creative team led by Director Diane Paulus. However, it's noteworthy for another reason - Sara Bareilles' varied, character-driven music and lyrics that would, in any other year, probably have won the Tony Award. These are not the only selling points for the current national tour though. Some strong casting, a fierce band fully integrated into the diner setting (led by DC's own tremendously talented Jenny Cartney), and female characters you want to root for in Jessie Nelson's book make this one to see.
