Charles Mee to Be Honored By Cherry Lane Theatre And New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, 6/11

Legendary playwright, Charles Mee, is turning 80 years and will be celebrated by Cherry Lane Theatre at a benefit performance of FIRST LOVE followed by a blowout bash at Casa La Femme (140 Charles Street). Additionally New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson will recognize Charles Mee with an official New York City Proclamation for his extraordinary and enduring contributions to the American theatre, on Monday, June 11, 2018 at The Cherry Lane Theatre beginning at 7pm.

WOMEN ON FIRE: Stories from the Frontlines Has Been Extended

Royal Family Productions, a non-profit theatre company known for its innovative productions and development of new original work, will extend its acclaimed production of WOMEN ON FIRE: Stories from the Frontlines to accommodate the demand. WOMEN ON FIRE is written, curated, and directed by Royal Family artistic director Chris Henry from stories told to her by a group of anonymous women, with choreography from Lorna Ventura. The show began performances on May 11 and extended twice due to popular demand and critical and industry acclaim. WOMEN ON FIRE: will now run through June 8, 2018 at Royal Family Performing Arts Space (145 West 46th Street, 3rd Floor). The League of Chicago Theatres held the 2018 Annual Gala, an elegant event that brings together friends of Chicago theatre to raise funds for programs to support Chicagoland's more than 250-member theatre companies. The event, which had 245 attendees and raised $125,000, was held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 E. Delaware Place. 

Cherry Lane Theatre Presents FIRST LOVE By Charles Mee

Cherry Lane Theatre (Seri Lawrence, Janio Marrero, Co-Artistic Directors) is proud to announce that Academy Award nominee Michael O'Keefe and Angelina Fiordellisi will star in its upcoming Founder's Project presentation of Charles Mee's FIRST LOVE, directed by Kim Weild. Factory Theater Presents THE ADVENTURES OF SPIRIT FORCE FIVE

The Factory Theater presents the world premiere of The Adventures of Spirit Force Five, playing June 29 - August 11 at the Factory Theater, 1623 W. Howard St. The new play is written by Jill Oliver and directed by Spenser Davis. Previews are Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 1 at 3 p.m.

Vans has announced the return of their House Parties series to House of Vans Brooklyn and Chicago. Even though Sheldon Harnick was playing the violin in his High School's Gilbert & Sullivan productions… 'I could still hear the lyrics', he wrote in his alumni magazine of Northwestern University. Harnick continued, 'At that time I was turned on by the patter songs, so I began to familiarize myself with Gilbert and Sullivan. I was more fascinated by the virtuosity than anything else. Little by little, I also realized what a fine poet Gilbert was and how imaginative he was, even in the slower songs. So he became an enormous influence.'

American Repertory Ballet Makes A Splash With Gerald Arpino's SEA SHADOW To Be Performed At McCarter Theatre

Since the earliest days of civilization, legends abound of mythical sea creatures who lure handsome young men to the lower depths of the sea. One such story is of Ondine, which tells of a young man on a beach enamored with a beautiful shadow from the sea. This story has sparked the imaginations of composers from Dvorak's operatic masterpiece "Rusalka" to compositions by Ravel and Debussy, and a critically acclaimed play by the French dramatist Jean Giraudoux. This legend was popularized in Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, 'The Little Mermaid.' and in the popular Disney animated film by the same name.

Cygnet Closes Season with THE WIND AND THE BREEZE

Cygnet Theatre closes its 15th season with the World Premiere of The Wind and The Breeze by New York based playwright Nathan Alan Davis. This poetic, slice-of-life drama was the winner of the 2013 Lorraine Hansberry Award and part of The Bill and Judy Garrett Finish Line Commission in 2016, where it moved audiences with its humanity and humor. Cygnet's production is directed by Rob Lutfy and runs May 16 through June 10. Opening night for media is May 19.
