Troupe members will light up the stage March 11-12 with high-energy dance, impressive athleticism, and breakneck bravado as Miami-Dade County Auditorium presents “5 Passos pra não cair no abismo” by Companhia Urbana de Dança, a dance company directly out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The American Dance Guild will return to live performance with their yearly ADG PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL, their first live production since the Covid pandemic. 

Arts on Site will present JANIS BRENNER, dancer/singer/actress, in the premiere of her one-woman show She Remembers her Amnesia, based on true stories, and set to a musical score by Jerome Begin.  Three performances: November 9 at 8 PM and November 10 at 6:30 & 8:30 PM at Arts on Site.  Evening performances will be followed by a Q&A session.

Creative people create, and during Covid, Christine Jowers, Janis Brenner, and JoAnna Mendl Shaw turned their attention to 'visual choreography.' The three dancer/choreographers have joined forces to show their 'Doodles, Collages, and Paintings: Dancers Pivot to Visual Choreography,'

Lynn Needle, former Nikolais Dance Theatre soloist, will appear on the United Solo Festival in her 'Six Solos - Legend, Myth and Nature,' a one hour, six solo, presentation that features works by seminal choreographers Alwin Nikolais (1953) and Claudia Gitelman (1978), along with dances by Ms. Needle that exemplify the German school of modern dance and its evolution.

Choreographer/filmmaker Mimi Garrard returns to New York Live Arts with a program of dance both on film and live, featuring the superb artist Austin Selden, former member of Shen Wei Dance Arts, Sunday October 17 at 7:30 PM.   

HENNING RÜBSAM, choreographer and artistic director of SENSEDANCE, will teach a dance history/appreciation course for the general public on “ICONIC DANCE PARTNERSHIPS”.

THE JIMMY AWARDS has announced the 2021 INSPIRING TEACHER AWARD presented by WELLS FARGO will be given to Katelin Ruzzamenti Knight, Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts, Salt Lake City, Utah and Benjamin Pesenti, Elmont Memorial High School, Elmont, NY.

This year marks EYE ON DANCE's 40 Anniversary. To celebrate, Dance Enthusiast is hosting a screening of the EYE ON DANCE 200th Program Special. Created and aired in 1986, the Special commemorated the completion of  the 200th EYE ON DANCE episode broadcast weekly on PBS.

TAKE ROOT, now in its 12th season, nurtures dance artists at established stages in their careers, pairing them in a split bill or full evening-length program. This monthly series supports dance makers’ experimentation and growth with support to present their work to the public. Take Root will present 12 aesthetically diverse artists among seven performances Jan-June 2021.

NEXT WEEK, Nov. 30 through Dec. 6, the 2020 ADG Virtual Festival will stream WEEK EIGHT, a tribute to Garth Fagan, Martha Myers and the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers/Louis Mofsie, honorees at American Dance Guild Festival 2017 - 'Celebrating Diversity.' 

After the overwhelming feedback Henning Rübsam received upon releasing his 2015 work 'And there was Morning' online via his YouTube channel DanceArtJoy this past Sunday,  he decided to make one archival work of his company SENSEDANCE public for free on every Sunday during the current crisis.

Individually, Beiser and Whelan captivated - Whelan walking contemplatively across the stage, Beiser seated in a power stance, limbs enfolding her cello. Together, they grounded the work's multi-disciplinary, hybrid structure with their various expertise along the spectrum of creative function. As a primer on post-modern movement built on a neo-classical ballerina and a musical marathon fusing classicism, romanticism, and modernism into a dense score, these artists triumphed despite navigating a heavily nuanced, deeply detailed construction.

The American Dance Festival (ADF) will present the 2020 Samuel H. Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement to acclaimed choreographer Shen Wei. Established in 1981 by Samuel H. Scripps, the annual award honors choreographers who have dedicated their lives and talent to the creation of modern dance. Shen Wei will be in residence at ADF during the 2020 season working on his latest ADF commission set on ADF students. ADF Director Emeritus Charles L. Reinhart will present the $50,000 award in a brief ceremony on Thursday, July 23rd at 8:00pm, prior to the Footprints performance in Reynolds Industries Theater.

In preparation for a Spring 2020 season, Rübsam presents his company SENSEDANCE in an informal showing  at the Ailey Studios, 405 West 55 Street   Sunday, November 17 at 6:00pm. (studio will be open for seating at 5:30 pm)
