Timothy Dunn Headshot

BIO

Timothy Dunn is a theatre artist, director, producer, performer, educator, and creative leader whose work spans nearly three decades across regional theatre, musical theatre, comedy, live television, and new work development. He currently serves as Associate Artistic Director of Bridge Street Theatre, “the region’s most fearless professional stage company,” where he works across artistic and stage direction, production leadership, marketing and public relations, educational programming, audience engagement, and artistic development.

At Bridge Street Theatre, Timothy has directed productions including the original musical South: A Nautical Musical; the original solo show Herkimer! How My Ignorant Immigrant Ancestors Saved America and You Can Too; and the teen-written and performed Enough: Plays to End Gun Violence!. He has also worked extensively in production as an Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Costume Designer, and production lead on numerous productions including Uncle Vanya (Conor McPherson adaptation), Discord: The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Darwin, and Count Leo Tolstoy, Red Like Fruit, Polishing Shakespeare, Bakersfield Mist, and Monsters of the American Cinema. Many of these plays have very long names, but he did not write any of them.

Timothy also helps lead Bridge Street Academy programming, including teaching beginner improv classes for teens (and adults!) and Music Together classes for 0–5 year olds (and the grownups who love them!).

Before joining BST, Timothy spent more than twenty years in New York City, including over a decade as a performer, writer, director, and producer at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, the funniest theatre in the whole world. As Senior Producer for UCB Comedy, he oversaw teams of writers, performers, directors, and editors creating weekly original digital comedy content, guiding projects from development through production and release.

As a performer, Timothy has appeared in productions ranging from contemporary plays to large-scale musicals across New York City and regional theatres nationwide. Favorite credits include Cabaret (Emcee), The Drowsy Chaperone (Man in Chair), Casa Valentina (Gloria), Noises Off (Gary Lejeune), Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Le Fou), CATS (Skimbleshanks, the Railway Cat) (on roller skates!) (REAL THING!!!), and Pauly Scott in Lanford Wilson’s Sympathetic Magic at Bridge Street Theatre in 2023. He will also appear on the Bridge Street stage this summer in Terrence McNally’s The Lisbon Traviata, directed by John Sowle. Additional credits include work at venues including The St. Louis MUNY, Drury Lane Theatre, and the STILL THRIVING Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. (Support local theatres!)

In addition to his stage work, Timothy has worked extensively in live and unscripted media as a writer and on-camera host, including work for HQ Trivia, HQ Words, One2Win Trivia, FuseTV, and Animal Planet.

A graduate of Northwestern University’s Theatre and Musical Theatre Programs, Timothy believes deeply in theatre as a communal act: a place where people gather to laugh, grieve, argue, imagine, and remember their shared humanity.

After twenty-one years in New York City, Timothy now lives in the Hudson Valley with his dogs, Taco and Bob Vila. It is most excellent.

He believes theatre can save the world.
