The 2019 WATCH Award winners were announced on April 4th, 2020. The ceremony was canceled due to the current health crisis, but the announcement was published online.

When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past - and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

The original 1983 Broadway production received nine nominations for Tony Awards and won six. The 2010 Broadway revival was nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Based on the French play and retold in the Robin Williams movie, The Bird Cage, the Jerry Herman Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles is the story of a gay couple who must pretend to be straight for one night - with one of the men in drag - to dupe the conservative political family of their son's fiancee. Featuring songs, 'I Am What I Am,' 'With Ann on My Arm,' and 'The Best of Times.'

Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) proudly announces the shortlists for its 2017 Tom Hendry Awards. The shortlists for the Carol Bolt Award, the RBC Emerging Playwright Award, the Robert Beardsley Award as well as the Stage West Pechet Comedy & Musical Awards have been released by their respective juries.

Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's near masterpiece of a musical MY FAIR LADY took Broadway by storm 60 years ago this year and has become a 20th century classic. I am happy to report the plucky flower girl from the mean streets of London who gets molded into a proper lady is as lovely as ever as presented by Riverside Performing Arts Center. The sparkling wit, unrequited romance, musical hall turns and lush music are all performed with love and panache in director Patrick A'Hearn's production, featuring well-known DC actor Thomas Adrian Simpson as Henry Higgins and Riverside veteran Quinn Vogt-Welch in the title role.

Mame Dennis Burnside has coaxed the blues right out of the horn many times since the late 1960s and Riverside Center for the Performing Arts has brought the ditzy, glitzy and glamorous free-spirit back for a big, old fashioned musical hit. This new production of MAME looks and sounds like a million bucks and deserves to be a solid, sell-out for the holidays.

Fredericksburg's Riverside Dinner Theatre offers haunting and romantic production of the other musical version of Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera, featuring Patrick A'Hearn in the title role. PHANTOM continues through October 14, 2012.
