Matrell Smith is a native of Birmingham, AL. He was a standout basketball player in the state of Alabama before shifting to an acting career. He graduated from Stillman College with a B.A. in Journalism. Upcoming: “The Piano Lesson” directed by Malcolm Washington, produced by Denzel Washington and Todd Black (Netflix). Smith's most recent work includes "The Equalizer" opposite of Queen Latifah, "MindReader" and Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) official selected short film, "Why Tomorrow Never Comes."

Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, and Michael Potts, who will be reprising their Broadway performances. Danielle Deadwyler Corey Hawkins, and Erykah Badu are also in the movie.
