Josefina Scaglione is an Argentine actress and singer who made her Broadway debut in 2009 as Maria in the revival of "West Side Story." Born on December 8, 1985, in Buenos Aires, Scaglione began her career in musical theater at a young age. She trained at the Escuela de Comedia Musical de Buenos Aires and performed in productions of "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Phantom of the Opera" in Argentina.
In 2008, Scaglione was cast as Maria in the Broadway revival of "West Side Story," directed by Arthur Laurents. Her portrayal of the iconic character won critical acclaim and earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. She also received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for her performance.
After her success in "West Side Story," Scaglione continued to work in theater, starring in productions of "The Pajama Game" at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., and "The Last Five Years" at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. She also appeared in the Off-Broadway musical "Nobody Loves You" and the national tour of "Evita" as Eva Perón.
In addition to her stage work, Scaglione has also appeared on television and in film. She had a recurring role on the HBO series "Vinyl" and appeared in the film "The Last Days of Disco," directed by Whit Stillman.
Scaglione is also a talented singer and has released several albums. In 2012, she released her debut album, "Josefina Sings," which features a mix of Broadway standards and contemporary pop songs. She has also performed in concert at venues such as the Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center.
