BroadwayWorld was on the scene to photograph the many acclaimed cabaret performers who flocked to his final show, including Scott Coulter, Frank Dain, Tim DiPasqua, Julie Gold, Christine Lavin, Marcus Simeone, Steve Ross and Lennie Watts.

Having written a plethora of words about Marissa Mulder over the past couple of years, I had planned on relegating a review of her mid-November, two-show run at the Cafe Carlyle to a relatively short critique in my seasonal compilation column (due to post a day or two or three before Santa arrives, for those keeping score at home). But once I got started I went way over my self-imposed word count for such things and decided it should be broken out into this stand-alone review. Speaking of 'breakout,' although the first known use of the phrase 'breakout year' came 35 years ago, it has become the standard expression in sports or entertainment when referring to someone who has become a sudden or smashing success, especially in comparison to past efforts. If anyone in the world of New York cabaret could be said to have had a 'breakout year' in 2013, it would have to be Marissa Mulder. And this angelic young woman-in voice, looks, and personality-hasn't even hit 30 yet.

This week at Joe's Pub at the Public, March 11-17, will feature The New Yorker, Mike Daisey, Condola Rashad, Barb Jungr, Champagne Jerry, John Naberezny, Amy Correia, Tora Fisher, Erin Markey, Anne Steele, Justin Vivian Bond, Carol Lipnik/Poor Baby Bree and Roge.

In a reprise of her highly-praised March 2012 run of her cabaret show, 'Illusions,' at the Metropolitan Room that served as a launch party for her new CD of the same name, Marissa Mulder proved again that her rise as a New York cabaret princess is no illusion.

Mulder won the Metropolitan Room's 2011 MetroStar Challenge and grew up in Syracuse, New York and graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 2007 where she studied musical theatre.

Marissa Mulder, winner of the 2011 MetroStar Talent Challenge, headlines the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, in a special prime time engagement beginning March 7. The world premiere of "Illusions" plays a total of four consecutive nights, Wednesday through Saturday, March 4, 5, 6, 7, all at 7pm. Opening for Mulder will be her MetroStar co-finalists Fran Leonardis and Stacie Perlman on alternating nights.
