The Greek National Opera (GNO) presents the Greek premiere of La Ville morte (The Dead City), the only opera composed by Nadia Boulanger—one of the most important conductors and music educators, and mentor to some of the greatest music figures of the 20th century—in collaboration with her mentor Raoul Pugno, to a libretto by Gabriele D'Annunzio.

Investec Opera Holland Park's 2020 season will include four brand new productions. The season opens with two of the great classics of the repertoire; Verdi's Rigoletto - last performed at OHP in 2011, and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin - last staged in 2012.

Due to popular demand, The Left Wing, in association with John Turturro, extends the world premiere production of Brandon Cole's Imperfect Love to February 25. Directed by Michael Di Jiacomo, Imperfect Love is inspired by the tumultuous life of the great Italian actress Eleonora Duse (1858-1924) and her nine-year love affair with the poet and playwright Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938). The production, which is set to open on February 4, runs at The Connelly Theater and features set and costume design by the Academy Award-winning Italian designer Gianni Quaranta (Merchant-Ivory's A Room with a View). Turturro's 1998 film, Illuminata, which was co-written by Cole and Turturro, was based on Cole's Imperfect Love.

The Prop Thtr has announced that it will co-produce two plays, The Days of Commune by Bertolt Brecht (transl. David Constantine), and In Sarah's Shadow: The Eleanora Duse Story, in collaboration with Pop Magic Productions this fall 2017 at The Prop Thtr, 3502 N. Elston Ave, in Chicago. The Days of Commune, directed by Stefan Brun and featuring Prop Thtr's ensemble, opens Friday, October 20. 

'Eleanora Duse Dies in Pittsburgh' is a short dark comedy, written by Don Nigro about the terror and holiness of theater. Famous Italian actress Eleanora Duse finds herself regretful of her past actions and attempts to find some sort of relief only to be pestered by the comedic interactions of other famous characters around her, leaving her more uncertain of her eventual fate. Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival will present the play's New York premiere August 27 to September 12. Aan Steele directs and heads the cast of eight as Duse.

Sull'onda del settecentocinquantesimo anniversario della nascita di Dante Alighieri la regista (qui anche sceneggiatrice) Mariella Zanetti e il compositore Giovanni Santini hanno deciso di scrivere un musical dall'improbabile titolo 'TEENDANTE', che racconta la vita del giovane Dante Alighieri (cioe il Dante dell'epoca della 'Vita Nova'), andato in scena l'1 e il 2 ottobre al teatro LAC di Lugano.

L'ambito Pegaso d'Oro gli sara consegnato nella magnifica Arena del Teatro monumento "Gabriele D'Annunzio" di Pescara. Opera Musicale Moderna "Il Giullare di Dio" La storia mai raccontata di Francesco di Assisi

Riccardo Muti begins his fourth season as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) with a four-week residency, from September 19 to October 12, which features a celebration of Giuseppe Verdi's bicentennial.

We all sat waiting anxiously for the curtain to rise on Riccardo Zandonai's 'Francesca da Rimini' after almost a 27 year hiatus on the Met stage; but with each passing act, one could sense the audience waiting for the closing curtain just as intently. Not to say that the performances or design weren't a wonder to behold. The opera and production as a whole just seemed a bit trivial in comparison. Despite the story however, the musical prowess of Zandonai's score, the meticulously detailed sets, and exquisite costuming gave Monday nights opening of 'Francesca da Rimini' redeeming beauty amid a insipid story.
