On the heels of the highest grossing season in its history, The Joffrey Ballet opens 2018-2019 with the much-anticipated return ofChristopher Wheeldon's Swan Lake, which became an audience-favorite when it premiered in Chicago in 2014. Danced to Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's classic score and performed live by the Chicago Philharmonic, Swan Lake is presented at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway in 10 performances only, October 17-28, 2018.

A story relevant to generations past and present, Shakespeare's cautionary tale of love serves as a modern metaphor for the influence of society over individual freedom. For although the personal journeys of Romeo & Juliet are integral to the tale, this is a love story within a clear social and political context - the collective identity of the group is considered more important than the desires of its citizens, dooming the young lovers from "opposite sides of the tracks" to their tragic end as their personal lives are molded by the hostilities of the previous era. Beginning in the 1930s during a time when a rigid dictatorial system had taken over the country, the Capulet family represents the upper-class conservatives with stiff, militaristic movement, while the Montagues represent the liberal low and middle classes, danced with loose, flowing motions laced with pedestrian naturalism.

'Movie Night with Karlie Kloss,' is a six-part series of short-form games and interviews, that premiered on Dec. 28. Taking the ultimate movie night to the next level, the supermodel, tech guru and fashion icon will invite some of her closest friends for an evening of movies, games, baking and fun, all while watching some of the most beloved 'movie night' films, including 'Dirty Dancing,' 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,' 'Hitch,' and 'Never Been Kissed,' among others.

The internationally renowned Lar Lubovitch Dance Company celebrates its 50th anniversary this spring with two programs at The Joyce Theater featuring the world premiere of Lar Lubovitch's Something About Night as well as signature works from the Company's vast repertory. The Company will be joined by the Martha Graham Dance Company and principals from The Joffrey Ballet, each performing seminal Lubovitch dances in honor of this milestone year. Koch Theater fromMarch 29 - April 2, with a special gala performance benefiting The Joyce Theater on March 30featuring a mix-billed program including the New York premieres of Yuri Possokhov's Bells andMyles Thatcher's Body of Your Dreams.

At its 2015 Harman Center for the Arts Gala, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) will present renowned theatre, film and opera director Julie Taymor with the 2015 William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award), which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to classical theatre in America. JM Zell Partners, Ltd. will receive the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. Dame Helen Mirren (Academy Award winner and star of Taymor's film The Tempest) will be a special guest at the black-tie event, themed "Imagine: Shakespeare."
