BIO
Named one of Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch in 2012, professional dancer, educator and actress Courtney D. Jones is a Presidential Scholar in the Arts and a Young Arts Finalist for Choreography. Professional Credits include Broadway's First National Tour of WICKED. Now based in Houston, TX she has been seen in and choreographed for regional productions at Theatre Under The Stars; South Pacific (Choreographer), Ain't Misbehavin' (Choreographer), Urban Cowboy the Musical and A Chorus Line (Lois/swing). Stages Repertory Theatre; You Are Cordially Invited to Sit In (Movement Director), Auntie Mame, Panto Pinocchio, In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play, Failure: A Love Story, and Houston Grand Opera; The Snowy Day (Movement Director), Madame Butterfly (Movement Director), Show Boat (swing), Die Fledermaus, The Passenger (Movement Director). Courtney is a proud graduate of SUNY Purchase with a BFA in Dance Performance.

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) has announced the finalists for the 2023 Tommy Tune Awards and the return of the in-person awards show for the first time since 2019! The 2023 Tommy Tune Awards will be held on May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

Fats Waller is one of the many black artists over the centuries whose music still permeates popular culture. His stylistic rhythms are part the foundation of the quintessential American sound and it is due to this that his musical revue AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ is a tremendous work of art. TUTS season opening production not only does his music incredibly justice but also provides a night of theater that one simply will never forget.

The story goes that Stages staff member, Eboni Bell Darcy, was part of the discussion for the theater's reopening season. Ideas evidently floated around in the zoom call. It was Eboni's idea for Stages to commission their own jukebox musical. This excellent idea led to the creation of ShaWanna Renee Rivon's YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO SIT IN. One would think that a musical highlighting Houston's generational social justice problems would be what some call a 'downer.' Instead, Rivon's creation has become, at least for me, the crowning achievement of the 21-22 Houston theater season.
