This is northern rural China, 1980s.
On the last day of a three-day burial ceremony of Polynikes, the eldest son of the Oedipus family.
The spirit of his late brother Eteocles patiently awaits by the casket to escort Polynikes into the afterlife, while their living sisters, Antigone and Ismene, struggle to navigate this funeral rite because of their loathing for Polynikes. Meanwhile, Polynikes' bereaving young children refuse to accept their father's death and decide to take matters into their childishly almighty hands.
