SYNOPSIS:A gypsy woman in 15th century France is framed for the murder of the guard captain, due to the actions of the infatuated Archdeacon. The gypsy, out of places to run and out of options, has to rely on the bell ringer, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, to try and rescue her.
SUMMARY:Neither the 1941 movie of Hunchback of Notre Dame nor the present Menken musical version, tells the moving story of the novel by Victor Hugo.In each case, the character of Madame Gudule, the psychotic mother of Esmeralda who almost kills her own daughter, is not included. In the movie, the poet, Gringoire and Esmeralda waltz off together at the end of the movie to give us a happy ending. Our version restores the tragic yet poignant ending of the original narrative.
