The African Company Presents Richard III by Carlyle Brown is a play based on true events from 1821 New York City, where the first Black theatre company, the African Grove Theatre, stages a production of Shakespeare's Richard III. Their success is threatened by Stephen Price, a white theatre producer who tries to shut down the Black company's show through legal means, but the African Company continues to fight for their production and right to be seen in a white-dominated world.
MuCCC is at 142 Atlantic Ave, Rochester, NY 14607, rochester, NY.
