Market Demographics is an electrifying fusion of street dance—B-boying, Krump, House, Hip-Hop, and more—with physical theatre to confront the constructs of race, masculinity, and identity. Through raw, visceral movement and bold narrative, the work explores how Black and Brown male identities have been shaped by the legacy of slavery and the forces of a patriarchal, consumer-driven society. It asks: What does it mean to be a man, a person of color, and someone who identifies as male in today’s world? The show features choreography and movement direction by Tsiambwom M. Akuchu, who’s work has been presented in shows and festivals such as DANCE NOW NYC, SoloDuo, Dumbo Dance Festival, Austin Dance Festival, (de) Color-es Festival and more. The performers include internationally recognized House dancers Danzel Thompson-Stout and Cristian Baretto, DCX (Demolition Crew) member Ricky “White Wolf” Medina, and LA based dancers Sammy Macias and Fabian Zuniga.
Arts On Site is at 12 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003, New York, NY.
