Pro Black One Acts celebrates the rich culture that is Black history, featuring plays with dynamic Black protagonists this Saturday, February 26, 2022!
Affirmation Theatre Company is back with its 4th annual Black History Celebration: Pro Black One Acts Festival. Join us live as we hold space for and explore Blackness within the African diaspora through three diverse plays by emerging Black playwrights.
Featuring: How Dare You! by Kendra Augustin, Raising Junior by Cris Eli Blak, and Black Magic For Reals by Monique C. Aldred.
~Play Details:How Dare You! Written by Kendra Augustin. Directed by Bair Brown. Cast: Kellie Williams and Edwin Aguila. "A couple, six months into their relationship, play a game to figure out if their romance is worth sticking with.
"Raising Junior Written by Cris Eli Blak. Directed by Frederick Marte. Cast: Daelin DeMari Elzie, Kady Amy, and Timothy "StoneDancer" Coleman. "During his mother's funeral, a young man is approached by his absent father, who has come to try to resolve the problems of the past, but some wounds are not easily healed.
"Black Magic For Reals by Monique C. Aldred. Directed by Leoh and Epiphany Samuels. Cast: Vivette Alston, D'Asia Brunson, G Mama Lee, and Andres Castro."Black Magic for Reals is a story of two witchy sisters: level-headed, practical Acacia, and stubborn, rebellious Zafira. After yet another of Zafira's magical experiments backfires, the sisters decide to join forces. They work to re-create a powerful spell, but can they stop bickering long enough to pull it off?

We are so excited to bring Pro Black One Acts to The Bronx and its rich culture, and even more excited that every one act features talent from the Bronx! Epiphany Samuels, D'Asia Brunson, Kady Amy, Timothy "StoneDancer" Coleman, and Kellie Williams!
Affirmation Theatre Company was founded in the Summer of 2017 by then undergraduate students Epiphany Samuels and Danielle Covington at NYU Tisch School of the Arts after dealing with an extreme amount of racism on campus and within the theatrical industry. As Black fems, they were inspired to create an artistic space of their own that celebrated diversity and inclusivity. "Affirmation Theatre Company strives to provide a brave and inclusive community for artists to celebrate and affirm diversity by bringing empowering stories to viewers ready to embrace a change in the status quo". Under the artistic direction of Epiphany Samuels, Pro Blacks One Acts 2022 is produced by Samuels, Mickalia Forrester-Ewen and Alex Ramirez.
