As an actor, mime and educator, Bill has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. His extensive training and heartfelt personal style of acting and pantomime have led him on an incredible journey from regional stage to tours, television, film, and Broadway. Bill has appeared on Broadway in The Lion King and The Scarlet Pimpernel, and on the stages of Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, and the Kennedy Center. An accomplished actor, educator, and mime, Bill has studied with Marcel Marceau and has pioneered an irreverent mime style that's all his own. Bill's solo plays have garnered rave reviews across the nation. He is featured in the film Two Weeks Notice with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING
It Goes Without Saying was developed at the Adirondack Theatre Festival (NY) in 2003 under the direction of Martha Banta, and was presented at the Berkshire Theater Festival's (MA) Unicorn Stage in summer 2004. In 2006, It Goes Without Saying enjoyed a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run at the Rattlestick Theatre (NYC), followed by several regional presentations in 2007 and 2008. The bravely written and deeply personal It Goes Without Saying chronicles Bowers' captivating journey from a small-town, oddball Montana childhood to big city, professional adventures as an artist, actor, mime and man. THE LYNX MISSION
Lynx Ensemble Theater is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that explores the nature of identity, exploding stereotyping and engendering empathy and understanding between diverse people.
Lynx Ensemble Theater was created in 2003 by Mark O'Connell and Aileen Barry, two actors who recognize that the phenomenon of typecasting pervades both art and life. Lynx Ensemble uses theater to challenge stereotypical and limiting concepts of identity, concepts that inhibit both our artists and our audiences. Our goal is to create an environment in which artists can expand their own possibilities, discover their surprising abilities, and, in rebellion against the limitations of "the business," reveal their invigorating eccentricities, weaknesses, differences, and authentic richness.
Lynx Ensemble challenges audiences to recognize themselves in characters who at first seem very different, and emboldens them to take creative, transformative action. Our theater is not limited to a self-selecting in-crowd. We engage audiences of non-typical theatergoers whose diverse experiences add insight and perspective to pre- and post-performance dialogues. In cultivating new plays and revisiting older ones, Lynx challenges the limits placed on identity. Our mission includes, but is not limited to, nontraditional and colorblind casting. Lynx Ensemble's annual programming includes a mainstage production, a reading series, workshops of new plays as well as talkbacks and panel discussions held in tandem with performances.
Lynx Ensemble Theater is a member of A.R.T./New York and a recipient of grant awards from the Nancy Quinn Fund, the Katherine Dalglish Fund, the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, the Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation, and the Ernest O. Reaugh Foundation.
