The Keegan Theatre presents Aaron Sorkin's breakthrough stage production A Few Good Men, opening August 10, 2013. First produced on Broadway in 1989 and inspiring an Academy Award-nominated film of the same name, Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men tells the story of military lawyers at a court-martial who uncover a high-level conspiracy in the course of defending their clients, two United States Marines accused of murder. Based on events that took place at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in July 1986, A Few Good Men is a riveting courtroom drama that investigates both the nature of our military mentality and the Marine code of honor. A hit on the Broadway stage, A Few Good Men is as timely today as the day it was written!

Barter Theatre wraps up its 2013 Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights with a mini-production of 'Hanging Mary' at Barter Stage II. Written by Matthew Carlton, and set in Erwin, Tennessee, the play depicts an infamous event in a fascinating story. There are only eight performances scheduled between July 30 and August 10.

Endstation Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Unearthed: An Appalachian Musical produced in part by a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts as part of the Blue Ridge Summer Theatre Festival and runs July 26-28. Unearthed is a new musical written by Nick Lantz, composed by Scott Gendel, and developed/directed by Kelly Bremner. This work began as the brainchild of Endstation resident lighting designer and Amherst native, Daniel Gallagher, and has been specifically developed for Endstation.

NextStop Theatre Company Awarded Local, County & State Grants

The Elden Street Players have been awarded grant support from the Town of Herndon, the Arts Council of Fairfax County, and the Virginia Commission for the Arts for operations and activities related to the organization's transition to NextStop Theatre Company. Under the company's new business model, these funds will be utilized to help establish the company as the first and only major professional regional theatre, specifically focused on serving Northern Virginia's Dulles Corridor.

Virginia Repertory Theatre celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of Barksdale Theatre at Hanover Tavern with a production of Steel Magnolias featuring an all-star cast. The show opens tonight, July 12, 2013 at Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Road, and runs through August 25, coinciding with the official anniversary on August 1. Sixty years ago in 1953, six actors, two children, a dog and two pigs moved into a historic ruin called Hanover Tavern. The transplanted New Yorkers founded Central Virginia's first professional theatre and named the company in memory of a deceased college friend, Barbara Barksdale.
