By:

Disney's Aladdin Jr. will be presented at The Historic North Theatre in Danville, VA tonight, October 4th (8:00pm), Saturday, October 5th (8:00pm) and Sunday, October 6th (3:00pm Matinee).

Aladdin, Jr. is a bright, fast-paced, fun-filled show for the whole family. The Academy award-winning score includes favorite songs and offers audiences a chance to "enjoy the choral melodies of 'Arabian Nights' and 'Prince Ali'; to watch as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine escape from the evil Jafar in 'One Jump Ahead,' and as they fall in love with 'A Whole New World'; and to laugh and sing along as the Genie transforms Aladdin in 'A Friend Like Me.'" Under the direction of Mimi Grubb, the show features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased on the theatre's website: www.TheNorthTheatre.com or by calling the box office at 434-793-SHOW (7469).

The show is produced and directed by Mimi Johnson Grubb. She has worked in theatre professionally for 30 years. Since coming to Danville she has directed numerous productions and taught youth acting classes and workshops. Many people will remember her youth production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Jr. She said, "The Aladdin Jr. cast is one of the best I have had the pleasure of working with and the talent and energy is amazing! The audience is going to love this well known tale and be completely entertained by the music and dancing. This is one not to be missed."

Audiences will recognize Ryan Crawford as Iago who played Oliver at the Prizery and will delight in the voices of Aladdin and Jasmine played by Christian Roach and Abigail Schleifer. The Genie, played by Mae Gayle Dalton, is doing his magic as only a Genie can.

The theatre also books top celebrity touring concerts and shows to perform in this beautiful 500-seat venue. They also host a number of other productions, festivals and special events. Bringing in Broadway musicals is in the plan for the future. The goal is to provide top quality, wholesome and family friendly entertainment. Theatre owner Wayne Alan said, "We will strive to live up to the North's first advertisement in the 1947 newspaper: "Visit Danville's new and finest theatre for the best in entertainment."
