The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Music & Lyrics by William Finn

Book by Rachel Sheinkin

Directed by Stephanie Lynn Williams

Music Direction by Tiffany Underwood Holmes

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee centers around a fictional spelling bee in Putnam Valley Middle School. Quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by equally quirky grown-ups. The 2005 Broadway production was nominated for six Tony Awards, and won two, including Best Book. This piece will push our TYA members' skills in improvisation, character development, and challenging music.

TYA is Drama Learning Center’s Teen Professional Company. Available by audition only, TYA allows students to work in a professional theatre environment as they learn about all aspects of theatrical work. Alums of the program have studied, or are currently studying, at such prestigious programs as: NYU Tisch, Marymount Manhattan, University of Maryland, Elon, James Madison University, Indiana University, Wagner College and others. The program is tuition-based with limited scholarship/tuition assistance available to candidates who qualify.
