SEEKING CAST FOR FALL MUSICAL, “LA CAGE AUX FOLLES!”

Theatre UP announces auditions for its fall production of Harvey Fierstein & Jean Poiret’s Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles. Auditions will be held at the Littleton Opera House on Thursday, August 17th from 6:00 – 8:30 pm and Sunday, August 20th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Callbacks on the 20th as necessary.

The Story: After twenty years of un-wedded bliss Georges and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-worse get a bit of both when Georges’ son announces his impending marriage to the daughter of a bigoted, right-wing politician. Further complicating the situation is the ‘family business’ - Albin and Georges run a drag nightclub in St. Tropez, where Albin is the “star” performer Zaza. Georges reluctantly agrees to masquerade as “normal” when he meets the family of the bride-to-be. But Albin has other plans, with hilarious results.

Who we are: UP is a welcoming and nondiscriminatory organization. We are looking for an incredibly diverse and inclusive cast. We encourage community members to attend regardless of age, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and/or experience.

What we’re looking for: This fun musical has opportunities for a huge variety of talented performers. The main cast roles require singing and acting, and there will be an ensemble of townspeople with smaller parts and some singing. Additionally, we hope to cast a great dancing chorus of “cagelles” played by both men and women for the night club scenes. There is some musical theatre dance and one tap section for the “cagelles” to do. This chorus will all be dressed in some version of drag. We will be casting high school through adult ages. This is a community theatre production - actors are not paid.

Interested actors are asked to prepare a short song they know well, preferably from musical theatre repertoire. Please bring sheet music. Singing with accompaniment preferred. An accompanist will be provided. Actors may be asked to read from the script. Auditions are by appointment only. Please see our website for the link to the audition request form.

La Cage Aux Folles will be directed by Jonathan Verge for Theatre UP. All roles are open except Albin/ZaZa. Full character breakdown is available on our website. The show will rehearse and perform at the Littleton Opera House. Rehearsals begin August 23rd and will take place most Wednesday & Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Performance dates are November 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, & 12.
