JUNIE B. JONES-AUDITIONS

Junie B. Jones-The Musical

AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT – August 11, 12 & 13, 2017

Woodbury Community Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for

JUNIE B JONES- THE MUSICAL (Theatre for Young Audiences Series)

Performances - OCTOBER 20-29

It's Junie B.'s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie's friend, Lucille, doesn't want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal, and first grade has never been more exciting.

Cast Needs: Colleen Wenzel and Lori Sager will be directing this ensemble cast with many featured and ensemble roles ages 8-15 and several adults who can sing and dance.

  • Junie B. Jones - A quirky, energetic first grader with comedic flair. Wildly precocious, yet completely endearing.
  • Lucille- Junie B.'s former best friend. The ultimate child diva.
  • Herb - Junie B.'s new best friend. A cute boy, slightly shy.
  • May - Another first grader in Mr. Scary's class with Junie B. Bossy, know-it-all.
  • Sheldon - Another first grader in Mr. Scary's class with Junie B. Nerdy, lactose intolerant, and gets a bit of stage fright.
  • Camille - Lucille's new best friend and Chenille's twin sister.
  • Chenille - Lucille's other new best friend and Camille's twin sister. Coordinated and cute.
  • Grace - Junie B.'s other former best friend. She rides the bus with Junie B. and is now best friends with Bobbi Jean Piper.
  • Bobbi Jean Piper - Grace's new best friend.
  • José - Another first grader in Mr. Scary's class. Speaks both Spanish and English.
  • Lennie - Another first grader.
  • Mr. Scary - Junie B.'s first grade teacher, a warm man, despite his name.
  • Mother - Junie B.'s mom. Exasperated, but understanding.
  • Daddy - Junie B.'s dad. Encouraging and knows how to juggle.
  • Mrs. Gutzman – The kids' favorite lunch lady at Junie B.'s elementary school, also known as Gladys Gutzman, Queen of Snacks.

Other Ensemble Roles: Additional ensemble roles will be cast.

· Plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time, and prepare to stay 30 minutes past your time.

· Bring sheet music and be prepared to sing at least 32 bars of a musical theater song (NOT a “pop” song) that showcases your vocal range and strength – song sheets can be found online - here's one resource:
http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/. Also, be prepared to sing scales.

· Come dressed and prepared for a short dance audition.

· Bring with you a completed audition form, which is available on the Sign-Up Genius site.

· Be sure to list ALL conflicts on your audition form. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Please fill this out completely as it helps for planning rehearsals. ALL conflicts added AFTER handing in your conflict sheet may mean losing your part in the show (unless an illness or an emergency.)

· Bring also a photo (that you don’t want back). A small school photo or selfie is just fine!

· People will be notified if they are being called back. NOT being called back does not mean you are not cast. Often times, only certain parts need callbacks. We will let all auditioners know the results via email no later than Saturday, August 20.

Volunteer Involvement:

As a volunteer-driven organization, we depend on cast to support crew needs. Each cast member (or member parent, spouse, sibling, friend, etc.) is expected to contribute at least 4 hours of time in helping to support the show by helping build/paint the set, sew costumes, make props, hang up posters, assist with lights and sound, help backstage, usher, house manage, help with refreshments and other tasks that arise.
