Maxine is sick. Maxine is dying. Maxine has money, lots of it. And she can feel herself getting worse. She does not consider this a mere matter of chance. It's December, 2010, and the tax code is about to change. Maxine's estranged daughter stands to inherit a great deal more money if Maxine passes in December than if she lives past the New Year. "It wouldn't be much for my daughter to pay you off," says Maxine, daring Tina to contradict her. "You wouldn't cost much." As Tina's actions come under increased scrutiny by her supervisor, Todd, and as Maxine's daughter shows up demanding information, the walls begin to close in on the nurse, whose mind is further clouded with worry for a son back in Haiti. What unfurls is a spellbinding thriller about money, power and the value of a human life.? -"About Death Tax" by Sarah Lunnie
