Ragtime the Musical – TYA Senior Company Spring

Eligible Grades: 9-12, TYA Alums, and College Students

Book by Terrence McNally
Music by Stephen Flaherty
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Based on the novel, Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow

A sweeping musical epic follows three distinctly different families at the turn of the twentieth century all in pursuit of the American Dream. In the volatile melting pot of early-twentieth-century New York, the tales of these three families are woven together. Together, they confront history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair… and what it means to live in America.

Directed by Stephanie Lynn Williams

Music Direction by Tiffany Underwood Holmes

TYA Senior Company allows students to work in a professional theatre environment as they learn about all aspects of theatrical work in a college preparatory atmosphere with individualized instruction. Junior Company members produce a full-length musical in the Fall/Winter session and participate in a skills-based audition prep class in the Winter/Spring. Students who excel throughout the year will be invited to participate in a special Spring workshop which includes being featured as an ensemble member in select scenes of TYA Senior Company’s production in June. (Please note that students who are accepted into Fall/Winter session of Junior Company will be unable to do a Drama Learning Center Winter production class. It is recommended that Junior Company students participate in DLC Fall and Spring production classes to supplement their learning)
