Weston Drama Workshop announces auditions for the children’s roles in BILLY ELLIOT, The Musical as part of the 55th Anniversary Summer Season.

AUDITION DATES:
Saturday, February 11th, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Sunday, February 12th; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Callbacks will be held on date and time TBD.

Auditions will be held at Weston Community Center, 20 Alphabet Lane, Weston, MA 02493.


AVAILABLE CHILDREN’S ROLES:
BILLY ELLIOT – Reads 10-13 years old, no broken voice. Strong Ballet and Tap training essential. A boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance. To him, dance is a way to feel whole and free himself from the problems of life. He finds himself stuck between appeasing his family and chasing his new found love.

MICHAEL – Reads 10-13 years old, no broken voice. Dance skills a plus. Billy’s carefree and fun-loving best friend. He lives in the realm of expressing oneself, go so far as to commonly dress in women’s clothing. He gives Billy the confidence to chase his dream.

DEBBIE – Reads 9-12 years old. Daughter of Mrs. Wilkinson, Billy’s dance teacher. Outspoken, unconsciously funny, no-nonsense, possibly a bit of a bully, surly. Takes ballet class only because her mother is the teacher. Her childhood crush on Billy leads her to constantly discourage him. Requirements: Strong actor. Good ballet and tap.

BALLET SCHOOL GIRLS – Girls who read 8-12 years old on stage. Seeking dancers who sing, with strong tap and good ballet. Some girls may be required to do pointe work. Seeking a variety of sizes, shapes and types, with expressive character and lots of personality, not the traditional ballerina.

SMALL BOYS/TALL BOY: Read age 6-12 on stage. Acting roles – singing and dancing experience a bonus. They represent the rest of the boys in the village from classmates to boxing partners.

ABOUT THE PLAY:
Based on the international smash-hit film and featuring a score by music legend Elton John, Billy Elliot is an astonishing theatrical experience that will stay with you forever. Set in a northern English mining town, against the background of the 1984 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Follow Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and community and changes his life forever.

AUDITIONER INFORMATION:
Please email westondramaworkshop.info@gmail.com with your resume, headshot, and preferred morning to schedule your audition auditions.

Auditioners should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song, style of the show is preferred. Songs from the show are also accepted. Following vocal auditions, there may be reading from the script. There will be a dance call at auditions. So, please bring clothes to move in and tap shoes and ballet shoes (if you have them).

REHEARSALS:

Billy and Michael will rehearse one weekend day a month from March to June. Regular rehearsals for all cast members will begin mid-June. Rehearsals are Sunday through Thursday from 6:30-10:30pm. Ballet class members will not be called to all rehearsals. All rehearsals are held at Regis College in Weston.



PERFORMANCES:

Performances will be held at Regis College Fine Arts Center, located at 235 Wellesley St., Weston, MA 02493.

Performance specific dates and times still TBD. Performances will be within the window of July 13th- 29th.
