Southern Rep, now in its 23rd season, welcomes new Managing Director, Marieke Gaboury, to its staff.
Marieke's vision and experience in the new play development arena perfectly complements Southern Rep's goal of becoming a home for premiere theatre in the Gulf Coast region and a leader in the field. She will be an excellent asset to our local theatre community, as well. As we say in New Orleans Marieke also knows how to "pass a good time" and has a tremendous sense of humor which makes doing the hard work that we do as a nonprofit arts organization all for the better. At this incredible time of growth and change in our city Marieke's decision to be here is another rich indicator that New Orleans and Southern Rep survived a difficult transition and are now heartily thriving! - Artistic Director, Aimeé HayesMs Gaboury arrives to New Orleans from New York City, where she was most recently Producing Director of LAByrinth Theater Company, having worked for seven years with former Co-Artistic Directors John Ortiz and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
At LAB, I was in the fortunate position of working with some of the best theatre artists in the country. What draws me to Southern Rep is the potential to do the same. This company is working and growing, under [Artistic Director] Aimée Hayes' leadership, in a way that truly reflects the fierce vitality that one feels on the streets of New Orleans. Truly, I have never felt a city that was so alive with the energy of its population. And I don't think that's just because my first night here was the same night the Saints won the playoffs! I'm thrilled to be a part of it and can't wait to give something back. Even if I don't quite know the literal meaning of the words when Aimeé says, ‘we're gonna get crunk spontaneously and make great art,' I definitely like the idea. - Marieke Gaboury
Also a member artist of LAByrinth, Ms Gaboury has worked as a director, writer, actor and teacher. As a director, her work has been seen in Off Broadway venues in NYC, including with LAB at The Public Theater, as well on the west coast. Her screenplay The Hard Place is currently in development with Twenty2Films. Training includes Southern Oregon University and American Conservatory Theatre. We are very fortunate to have recruited Marieke to Southern Rep as Managing Director. In addition to her considerable experience and impeccable credentials, Marieke brings to New Orleans great enthusiasm, creativity, and incredible talent. - President of the Board, Dr. Bernard JaffeUP NEXT at SRT ...
