The longest-running one woman show in Broadway history is coming to Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre when Golda's Balcony takes the stage from Jan. 24 - Feb. 8.

Actress Clare Moncrief stars as Golda Meir and Carl Walker directs the production about Mier, who rose from impoverished Russian school girl to a schoolteacher in Milwaukee to the fourth Prime Minister of Israel. Gibson's script has been described as "riveting" as it chronicles Mier's ascent to international political figure.

"Golda's Balcony is one of the most beautiful scripts ever written and is a compelling story about an extraordinary woman who, through intelligence and passion, rose to become one of the most important women in the world. It is ninety-minutes of history that everyone should see," said Cassie Steck Worley, executive director of Le Petit Theatre.

Local historian Howard Hunter described Golda Meir as "the embodiment of the idealism of the West and the Jewish sense of destiny. While it may be fashionable to compare her to other female leaders of the 20th century - Margaret Thatcher, Benazir Bhutto, Corazon Aquino, and Indira Gandhi - Golda Meir was the only world leader of the 20th century who could lay claim to the encomium "Founding Mother." She was one of a small group of visionaries who turned Israel from an idea to a nation. And, without her drive and commitment, Israel could have remained a historical footnote from 3,000 years ago."

In keeping with commitment to partner with a local nonprofit, Le Petit is teaming up with the nonprofit Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans to raise funds for the social service agency dedicated to preserving, strengthening and enhancing the well-being and self-sufficiency of individuals and families at every stage of life.

Tickets are now on sale for eleven shows from Jan. 24- Feb. 8. Ticket prices range from $30-$50. All tickets may be purchased online at www.lepetittheatre.com , at the box office between 11am - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturdays or by calling 504-522-2081.

In addition to Golda's Balcony, remaining shows this season at Le Petit Theatre include Death of a Salesman, May 9 - 24 and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, July 11 - 26.
