The MAC Players at the Middletown Arts Center present URINETOWN, the hilarious musical with a terrible name. The Tony Award-winning hit will be directed by Kathy Connolly, with musical direction by Matt Ebersole and choreography by Samantha Amaral. Audiences can expect a wickedly funny, fast-paced satire that takes on the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics and even the very conventions of musical theatre itself.

In a Gotham-like city, a 20-year drought has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. Citizens must rely on public amenities regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the struggle, one hero decides he’s had enough — sparking a revolution for freedom!

URINETOWN’s accolades include three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards, making it one of Broadway’s most celebrated comedies — with a “terrible” name!

Music and Lyrics by Mark Holland and Books and Lyrics by Greg Kotis. URINETOWN was produced on Broadway in September 2001 by the Araca Group and Dodger Theatricals in association with TheaterDreams, Inc., and Lauren Mitchell.
