Where Eagles Dare is a 1968 World War II action-adventure film that follows a daring Allied mission led by Major John Smith (Richard Burton), a British intelligence officer, and American Lieutenant Morris Schaffer (Clint Eastwood). The team, consisting of elite commandos, is tasked with infiltrating a seemingly impregnable Nazi fortress, the Schloss Adler, perched high in the Bavarian Alps, to rescue a captured American general who holds critical D-Day invasion plans. As the mission unfolds, the group faces treacherous terrain, enemy forces, and shocking betrayals, revealing a deeper objective involving double agents and espionage. Packed with intense action sequences, including a memorable cable car fight, the film blends suspense, deception, and wartime heroics, cementing its status as a classic war thriller. Directed by Brian G. Hutton, with a screenplay by Alistair MacLean (who also wrote the novel), the film runs for 155 minutes and features a stirring score by Ron Goodwin.
