Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a 1969 American Western buddy film directed by George Roy Hill, starring Paul Newman as the charismatic outlaw Butch Cassidy, Robert Redford as his sharp-shooting partner the Sundance Kid, Katharine Ross as Etta Place, and supporting actors like Strother Martin. The storyline follows the duo in late 1890s Wyoming as they lead the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang in robbing banks and trains, only to be relentlessly pursued by a determined posse, prompting them to flee to Bolivia with Etta in search of a fresh start. Clocking in at 112 minutes, the film carries a PG rating (re-rated from its original M), blending humor, action, and drama in a revisionist take on the Western genre. In recent years, it has undergone a 4K restoration, making it available in ultra-high-definition digital formats that enhance its vivid cinematography and sepia-toned sequences, though a physical 4K disc release has yet to materialize under Disney’s ownership of the Fox catalog.
