An American in ParisAn American in Paris, the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards, is currently playing until December 10th at the Detroit Opera House. It is a stunning show filled with some of the most exquisite dance numbers in recent history, catchy songs, and a beautiful story to go along with it.

An American in Paris is inspired by the Academy-Award winning film of the same name and is the romantic story of an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city, each yearning for a new beginning after in the aftermath of the war. The musical is directed and choreographed by 2015 Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon, features the music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, and book by Craig Lucas.

This production is very different from any other show that you will attend touring its way through the Detroit area. It has a very old-school musical feel mixed with a breath-taking ballet and the constant movement on stage that makes you not want to blink because you never want to miss a moment of the action. The choreography is something that is almost indescribable due to that fact that An American in Paris is a beautiful story on its own, but in actuality it is the choreography that truly tells it and makes the entire show.

With that being said about the choreography, this touring cast is unbelievably talented in so many ways, but especially their dancing. McGee Maddox plays the role of Jerry Mulligan. Allison Walsh plays the role of Lise Dassin. Separately, they are incredible to watch perform, but when the two of them dance together, it is one of the most beautiful moments on stage. They flawlessly move and become one taking the audience along on and emotion-filled ride through their characters journey. Kirsten Scott plays the role of Milo Davenport. Scott is the stand out of the show and a definite scene-stealer. She has an exceptional singing voice and is a shining light on stage throughout the performance. Matthew Scott plays the role of Adam Hochberg. Ben Michael plays the role of Henri Baurel. Scott and Michael work wonderfully together on stage and have one of the best numbers in the show with "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise."

An American in Paris is a big production musical with the most amazing dance numbers you will ever witness. It is something that everyone should experience in their lifetime, especially with a talented cast like this!
