The Toledo Repertoire Theatre Opens Its 93rd Season with the Dazzling Musical Pippin
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre proudly kicks off its 93rd season with Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson’s Tony Award-winning Musical Pippin, running September 12–21, 2025. Performances will be held Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available now at www.toledorep.org.
Directed and choreographed by Michael Kidney, with musical direction by Thomas Johnston, Pippin tells the whimsical yet poignant story of a young prince searching for meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. With a beloved score by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked), dazzling choreography inspired by Bob Fosse, and show-stopping numbers like “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky,” Pippin continues to captivate audiences across generations.
The Toledo Rep’s cast features Tyson Hughes as Pippin, Zarael Nurruddin as the charismatic Leading Player, Andrea Schreiner as Catherine, Michael Searle as Charles, Dawn Kingman as Fastrada, Sally Hart Goodman as Berthe, Jacob Smith as Lewis, and Elizabeth Kingman and Bryce Gilbert alternating as Theo. They are joined by an energetic ensemble including Alex Cook, Jesse Gerrild, Serenity Sanders Gerrild (Dance Captain), Celia Johnson, Truth Romel McCadney, Em Rose Miller, Jordan Miller, Kristin Osinski, Emily Smith, and Joseph Turner.
Director Michael Kidney shares his passion for the production:
“Pippin has been on my list of shows to direct and choreograph for years. Every Fosse show has at least one iconic number, and in this case it’s the ‘Manson Trio’ in ‘Glory.’ It was such a privilege to adapt and transform that number for our production. What excites me most is that every actor, no matter the size of their role, has created a fully rounded character with a rich backstory. This is one of the hardest working casts I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.”
Originally from Brooklyn and having recently relocated from New Jersey to Toledo, Kidney added:
“It is my honor and pleasure that my first show in Ohio is Pippin at the Toledo Rep.”
Cast member Zarael Nurruddin (Leading Player) describes the personal challenge of stepping into such a commanding role:
“Approaching this character really challenged me to get out of my comfort zone. The Leading Player’s passion for the show and its ‘Grand Finale’ inspired me to push harder and dig deeper. Pippin is so relevant now because we all want to do something completely fulfilling in our lives. We stumble and grow through trials and errors—that’s the beauty of living. There’s a Leading Player in all of us that wants to see us shine on the big stage of life.”
Andrea Schreiner (Catherine) reflects on the heart of the show:
“Creating Catherine allowed for so much creativity—she lives in the Leading Player’s world but longs for the simplicity of reality. For me, her story is a reminder that love wins, and that it’s often the ordinary moments that make life extraordinary. That message feels timeless and deeply relevant today.”
Join The Toledo Repertoire Theatre for this bold, magical, and inspiring production as Pippin lights up the stage with spectacle, humor, heart, and extraordinary dance.
