Metamorphoses at Dreyfoos School of the Arts Theatre

The Dreyfoos School of the Arts Theatre Department invites the community to its upcoming production of Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, a modern retelling of ancient myths that explores themes of transformation, love, and what it means to be human.

Co-directed by Kristina Leljedal and Savannah Whetsell, this visually stunning production brings Ovid’s classic myths to life in a way that is fresh, relatable, and full of heart. 

Zimmerman's Metamorphoses is a theatrical masterpiece that brings ancient tales to life with contemporary language, unexpected humor, and stunning visual poetry. From a king's golden touch to a musician's descent into the underworld for love, and a couple whose devotion transcends mortality, these stories explore the transformative power of love, loss, and redemption.

Through the production’s inventive staging, movement, and visual artistry, Metamorphoses reminds us that while these myths are rooted in ancient tradition, their messages are profoundly relevant to today’s world. As the mundane intertwines with the divine, audiences will witness transformations not only of characters but of themselves, leaving the theatre with a renewed sense of wonder and humanity.  These timeless stories are sure to resonate with audiences of all ages.
