History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present “A Stitch in Time,” a vibrant quilt show pop-up in collaboration with local textile guilds. This free public exhibition series, launching on Sunday, May 3, in collaboration with the Quilt Guild by the Sea, will celebrate the artistry and tradition of quilting, bringing colorful stories to life through fabric and craftsmanship.
Quilt lovers and curious visitors alike are invited to enjoy these one-day-only pop-up displays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., coinciding with the City’s Riverwalk Jazz Brunch series. Quilts will be on display draped over the second-story balcony and showcased inside the New River Inn Museum, offering visitors a rich blend of craftsmanship and history.
History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. with docent guided tours daily at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under. “Black Art, Black Artists Shaping Tomorrow's History,” a new fine art exhibit, will anchor History Fort Lauderdale's Black History Month showcase. An annual homage, this new installment will feature works for show and sale from Dillard Center for the Arts' Advanced Placement (AP) students and instructors, from February 4 – 29.
In honor of PRIDE Month (June 2023), History Fort Lauderdale will present “Take PRIDE! A Retrospective of LGBTQ Life in South Florida.” This impactful exhibit will chronicle the gay rights movement and the significant migration of LGBTQ community members to South Florida which has contributed to the success of its vibrant arts and culture, business, media, and political landscape.
